John James Marotto was born February 20, 1930 in Jamestown, New York, and died February 21. 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Mary, his son, Joe, his wife, Carolyn, and his grandson, Tony. He is survived by his son, Danny and wife Sara; daughter, Cathy and husband Mike Thompson; daughter, Teresa and husband Chris Murphy; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was the middle child of Dominic and Mary Marotto. While in high school he was the state boxing champion in his weight class. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army Air Force. He was assigned to Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Tigert. His enlistment was extended due to the Korean War and the establishment of the United States Air Force. Johnny and Carolyn married on October 7, 1950 and settled in Ft. Worth. Johnny finished his last two years of army service, earning a rank of SSGT. At the conclusion of his enlistment, the couple moved to Waco, so that Johnny could pursue a degree at Baylor University. They lived several places in the Dallas area before moving to Casa View, where they raised their four children and became long time parishioners of St. Pius X. John was active for many years in the parish and taught CCD and Adult classes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He became an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist and often brought the sacrament to home bound parishioners, who were unable to attend mass due to illness. While working full time at Texas Instruments, he started his own dental lab in the garage of his home. He worked long hours, late into the night trying to build up his business. This made it difficult for him to do anything except work. Johnny's goal was for the lab to become full time. He achieved that goal and opened a lab in Highland Park. As the lab became more successful, he employed Carolyn to do pickups and deliveries. Later on he closed the lab in Highland Park to open at a new location with a new partner on Garland Road. Later in life, as Carolyn's health was deteriorating, he spent his time, taking care of her, by doing the cleaning and cooking. They both spent their last three years living with their older daughter, Cathy and her husband Mike in Terrell. His funeral Mass will be March 10, 2022 at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 11:00am.
