Abraham Thomas

Abraham Thomas (Joji), 63 years old, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 10, 2021. He was born on May 27, 1958, to the late A. M. Thomas and late Raichel Thomas into the Angailthazha family in Kaviyoor, Kerala, India. He was the seventh of eight children. Joji completed his schooling from St. John's Higher Secondary School in Eraviperoor, Kerala. He pursued his further studies in Calcutta, India, and migrated to the United States in 1984. Joji joined Mary Chacko (Molly) in holy matrimony on February 3, 1986. They were blessed with three children and three grandchildren. Joji was employed with the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) in New York for 14 years. During this time, he took great efforts to ensure his children received a good education in India and experience Kerala culture. Kerala always had a special place in his heart. He made sure his three kids always spoke Malayalam at home. He loved hearing his daughters sings Malayalam Christian songs and encouraged them to sing and utilize their talents for the glory of God. After finishing his employment in 2006, he went to live in Kerala and be with his children while they were studying there. Joji will always be remembered for his distinct sense of humor and fashion sense. He took great pride in being a Malayali and was fondly referred to as 'Malayali Achayan'. He was known for his generosity. He was charitable and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He respected the Word of God and never diminished the role of God in his life. He was also passionate about fishing, artwork, hunting and social activities. He is affectionately remembered by: his wife of 35 years, Mary Thomas Abraham; daughter Judy and husband Jithin John; daughter Julie Kunnath and husband Juby Kunnath; son Jim Thomas; grandchildren Kenneth, Zaylan and Kristian; siblings Thomas Mathew, Alice Abraham, Sosamma Thomas, Saramma Philip, Thomas Varughese and their families. He was preceded in death by: his sister, Mary Abraham, and brother, Rev. Jacob Thomas. We will continue to carry him in our hearts and we look forward to seeing him again one day in Glory.
