Marilyn Woolsey

Marilyn Woolsey was born on July 30, 1932 in McAlister, Oklahoma and died on April 20, 2015 in Garland, Texas. She is survived by husband, Byron; sons, Mark and his wife, Mary, and Don; grandsons, Trevor, Ian, and Evan, and granddaughter, Colleen and her husband Thomas Tillson. Her youngest son, Ken, was tragically killed in March of 2007. Ken's wife, Sonya and son, Noel reside in East Texas. Her early years were lived in the small town of Atoka, Oklahoma. She often shared happy memories of her childhood in Atoka. Marilyn and her younger brother, Bob, played with their cousins at their Uncle Jack and Aunt Gladyce's country homestead. She spoke lovingly of her cousin, Mary Dee, who was like a sister to her. Marilyn was a shy girl , but was a very good student during her school career. She went on to graduate from South East State Teacher's College in Durant, Oklahoma. This shy young lady met another quiet, somewhat reserved, Korean War veteran on a blind date. For Marilyn, Byron soon became the love of her life. They married on August 20, 1954. Marilyn and Byron were blessed to have 60 years together. Marilyn also loved to travel and she and Byron took many wonderful trips. They traveled to many beautiful places in the U.S.: Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and all over Texas. Across the pond, they visited Hawaii, Germany, England, Wales, and Scotland. For most of these trips, they were with friends and family. What a wonderful time the Woolseys had in England!! Marilyn loved her family. While raising three active boys, she worked as a teacher's assistant for DISD until her retirement in 1988. She loved cooking, baking, and was an avid reader. The Bible was at the top of her reading list. She faithfully read it daily. The Woolsey family were faithful members of Axe Methodist Church. Marilyn and her family made many life- long friends at Axe, and enjoyed rich fellowship in Sunday school, trips to Beaver's Bend, Sharing Group, and countless holidays and celebrations. Marilyn was there for every celebration from the birth of her grandchildren and all their birthdays to Eagle Scout ceremonies, and her Grandaughter's wedding. She let herself go at the wedding and danced her heart out! We will all cherish that memory of her! Above all these activities, she had a strong faith and devotion to God and shared her faith with her children. Now, thanks be to God and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, she is no longer in pain or sorrow. She is in the loving arms of Jesus, her Lord! We will see you later, Marilyn!
