Abel Saucedo Gonzales

Abel Saucedo Gonzales, Sr., 87, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on March 19, 2021 at home with his family. Born in Dallas, Texas on November 16, 1933 to Andrea Saucedo Gonzales and Antonio L. Gonzales, both of whom preceded him in death, Abel was the second youngest of eleven children, raised in the area of Dallas known then as Little Mexico. Abel met the love of his life, Mary Helen Rodriguez, at Pike Park when they were 15 years old. They would marry on September 16, 1951 and go on to have five children. 2021 marks their 70th wedding anniversary. Abel loved his family. He always wanted his children and grandchildren to be with him. He also was curious in life with many varied interests. His first love was boxing. He fought until his mid-twenties and was a Texas' Golden Gloves Light Flyweight in 1958. Abel loved WWII history, pool, nature shows, photography, new technology, and Frank Sinatra. He was an avid golfer for almost 40 years, enjoying many rounds with his friends. Abel liked woodwork, always making things for his children and grandchildren. He also loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. Abel was a master tile man, laying tile in many of the buildings in Downtown Dallas. He started his own tile business in late 1980, laying tile in the homes of many prominent Dallas citizens. Abel is survived by his wife, Mary Helen; daughter, Elizabeth Maldonado; son, Rudy Gonzales and his wife, Jean Ann; son, Abel Gonzales Jr., and his wife, Gloria; daughter, Patty Ramirez, and her husband Rudy Jr.; his youngest son, Eddie Gonzales; his grandchildren, Bart Maldonado (wife, Farrah); Adrienne "Dandy" Maldonado; Bruce Gonzales; Cali Gonzales; Anthony Longoria, Mark Longoria, Joseph Rodriguez, Patricia Rodriguez, Samantha Gonzales, and Isabella Gonzales; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Linda Rico; and brother, David Gonzales, Sr. On Friday, March 26, 2021, the viewing will be from 9:00AM to 10:30AM, followed by the memorial service from 11:00AM to 12:30PM. Both will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 10701 E. Lake Highlands Dr., Dallas, TX 75218. The burial will take place immediately following the memorial service at Restland Memorial Park, Court of Memories, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243. Masks will be required for the viewing, memorial service, and burial.
