Barbara Ella Hollingsworth

Barbara Ella Hollingsworth passed from this life into eternal life with Christ Jesus Thursday, July 16, 2020. Barbara Ella Robinson was born November 19, 1933 in Menard, Texas to F. M. Robinson and Wanda Treat. She had two brothers, Robbie and Billy Robinson. that preceded her in death. Barbara was raised by two loving grandparents Sam and Barbara Treat and uncle and aunt, Bill and Mildred Treat. She met Ross Hollingsworth while they both attended Abilene Christian High School and later attended Abilene Christian College. She and Ross married in 1951. Ross worked for Kraft Foods Inc. with his Dad and was also in the Navy Reserves when Laurie was born. Shannon was born and then family moved to Garland, then Denison, Texas where son, Kevin was born. Denison was their home for 10 years. They served at Central Church of Christ and Willow Springs Church of Christ where they have many treasured friends and memories. They moved to Garland in 1966 where they continue to make their home to present. Ross and Barbara are completely devoted to the church community at Buckingham Road church of Christ. They are a team. Ross and Barbara served together in all aspects of service to others. They were devoted fosters parents with Christian Services and Hope Cottage for many years, loving and providing care for over 125 children. They enjoyed and supported trips to Pan American mission sites, supported Eastern European Missions and housed many a youth ministry intern. Barbara trained many a Bible school teacher and was a substitute teacher at Dallas Christian School for many years. She later was a secretary at Garland Check Savers. Barbara is well known for her ministry of encouragement as Every day she wrote notes and cards to people all over the world. If one asked, can I get you anything, she would say, "I could use some stamps". Their home is a tribute to the love she gave and received from others with many baskets of received cards, tokens of love on the wall placed thoughtfully throughout their home. Barbara and Ross were avid supporters of their children's activities during their years at South Garland High School and Garland High School. They continued that enthusiasm with their grandchildren. They both loved watching "the San Antonio bunch" play baseball and rarely missed a music/drama performance or sports games at Lakewood Presbyterian School. The last year has been difficult with countless trips to Baylor Cancer Hospital. She made many a rally to better health but the end came peacefully with Ross and children by her side. They have three children: Laurie, and husband Sid husband of Dallas, Texas, Shannon and husband Kerry Kennemer of Helotes, Texas and Kevin Hollingsworth of Garland, Texas. They have four grandchildren: Hunter Kennemer, wife Kathleen of Helotes Texas, Heidi Beal, husband Jeff of New BraunfelsTexas, Katy Sojourner, husband Clint of Abilene, Texas, William Latham, wife Marissa of Dallas, Texas. They have 10 Great-grandchildren: Caroline, Jackson, Holden, Ryland Kennemer, Miriam, Erianna, Brayden, Jaycee Reetz, Liam and Myers Sojourner and expected #11 Latham in December 2020. Barbara is also survived by first cousins David and Judy Treat of San Antonio and nephew Scott Robinson of San Diego, California. Barbara was a Hymn singer. She kept herself alert by singing and remembering hymns of old to present. "Oh God, You are my God and I will ever praise You" was on her lips to her final day in this world. Burial is at Fairview Cemetery in Denison, Texas. Barbara's "Life Celebration" is 11 am. Saturday, August 1, at Buckingham Road church of Christ with a "livestream" option. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buckingham Road church of Christ missions.
