Robert "Bob" Waterman

Robert Delano Waterman, Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2020 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Waterman Jones; brother, Randolph Waterman; three grandsons, Robert (Wesley), Noah and Aaron Jones; son-in-law, Monte Jones; and nephews, Ryan and R. Eric Waterman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Doris, and his son, Robert (Bobby) Waterman, Jr. Born in New York City, on March 15, 1941 Bob grew up in Brooklyn and retained that accent all his life. He and his big brother shared a passion for tap dancing, and he passed his love of dance to his daughter, "Squeaks." He and his wife, "Dot," were married on November 16, 1963 and remained wed until her death in 1999. He served in the US Navy from 1958-1981, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the military, he and his family settled in Garland, where he worked in human resources. At every opportunity, he traveled to Trinidad and Barbados, where he still has family and friends. A doting grandfather, he remained intimately involved in his grandsons' lives, even as his own health began to fail. He also enjoyed bartending part-time at his favorite restaurant, Taste of the Islands, where he kept close to his Caribbean roots. His unflappably good spirit, gentle kindness and goofy sense of humor will be sorely missed. A celebration of his life will be held at his daughter's home in Plano once parties of sufficient size are permissible, with Motown in the background as his toast is heard once again: "Here's to you, but I'm gonna drink it." *We ask the public to please wear face masks and practice social distancing while in the building.
