Rex Allen Klein

After waging a valiant battle against an extremely aggressive cancer, on March 5, 2015, Rex Klein met his Lord, free of pain and worry and comforted by faith that, he had been redeemed from sin, by grace and would live as a child of God forever. Rex was born 11 January 1961 in Dallas, Texas where he lived his entire life. He was baptized in 18 March 1973 and was confirmed on 23 May 1976 at Bethel Lutheran Church; his Confirmation Bible verse is Matthew 6, verse 33. After graduating from Bryan Adams high school, he briefly attended Dallas, Community College where he studied graphic arts. After a short period of employment by an Architectural firm, Rex joined Electro Space Inc. as a Graphic Illustrator of 'classified' aircraft systems. A continuing love of automobiles influenced Rex to leave ESI and form a high-end mobile auto detailing business; which he owned and operated until his death. He enjoyed restoring and sometimes racing vintage vehicles, which led to a room full of awards. A highlight of his automotive activities was attained during the time he owned and raced a 'Formula Ford' open-wheel race car. Rex loved every aspect of racing and often traveled to major events to work as a member of the safety and corner workers. The depth of his passion for all things automotive is revealed when you notice that Rex named his daughter after a famous race car and its designer. During his last hours, Rex was surrounded by his 'Band of Brothers' (and sisters), with whom he provided security for various entertainment venues around the MetroPlex. Rex was a licensed Personal Protective Officer (Body Guard) and as such, guarded many Dallas celebrities, including Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks. Working with that organization, during their last championship season, led to his being presented with a Championship ring. During the aftermath of two different hurricanes, Rex led teams to provide facility and personnel security. Determined to change the slight-of-build physique he had at his High School graduation, Rex trained virtually every day, with his friends and mentors, towards participation in a Body Building competition. At age 40 he achieved that goal. Before his illness, Rex had begun planning to again compete at age 55. Going 100 miles per hour with his hair on fire best describes Rex. He threw himself fully into every endeavor, whether it hurt him or not. He was tender-hearted and generous to a fault; always willing to help, and to be helped by a 'bud'. He was an amazing storyteller, not above an occasional embellishment of facts. He was a doting father to his daughter Shelby and loving partner to his fianc?e Sheila Rhymes, both of whom looked after Rex's medical needs and kept him going during the tough days of his battle. Rex is survived by his mom Glenda; his dad Max Jr.; brother Max III and his wife Kerri; and daughter Shelby. He is also survived by his uncle Jim, aunt Gloria; and many cousins, nephews, Sam and other long time friends. As was his wish, Rex will be cremated and his ashes strewn on the backstretch of a race track. A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 3003 Horizon Rd.; Rockwall, Texas; on Saturday, 7 March 2015; at 11:00AM. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the American Cancer Society; or to the Team T-Rex account at the Rockwall office of the Credit Union of Texas; or to the Elder's Assistance Fund at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
