Thelma "Ruth" Nelson Kennedy, 91, of Garland, Texas went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday morning, October 4, 2019 at Garland Nursing and Rehabilitation Home after suffering a heart attack/stroke on Wednesday. Ruth was born on January 9, 1928 in Hackensack, New Jersey to Hubert P. Nelson and Thelma LaDell (Paschal) Nelson Nethery. Her family returned to Dallas when Ruth was about one year old. She was a 1946 graduate of Crozier Tech High School, Dallas, Texas. Ruth is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jay, her parents, her brother Jack Nelson and sister Betty (Nelson) Fannin, son-in-law, Dr. Philip L. Scott and grandson, Michael Scott. Survivors include her daughters Gail (Talkington) Stevenson and her husband Charles "Chuck" Stevenson of Greenville, Texas, daughter Connie (Talkington) Kennedy of Greenville, Texas and Sandra (Kennedy) Scott of Georgetown, Texas, sister Peggy (Nelson) Wright of DeSoto, Texas, nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. In her younger years she was a Commercial Artist and provided many drawings and posters for her church, Orchard Hills Baptist in Garland. She was an amazing Christian homemaker who enjoyed baking and even dabbled in making of Sugar Confectionery for awhile. Ruth was most known for her crocheting. She spent countless hours lovingly crocheting wedding and baby gifts for her family and church friends. Her family and church friends also know Ruth for telling jokes, especially dumb blonde jokes. Ruth was a faithful and devoted Christian wife, always supporting her husband Jay in his ministry and long hours, never complaining as he served the Lord. God surely greeted her with "Well done good and faithful servant". Proverbs 31:10-12; 25; 28 and 31 KJV Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.
