LEONARD, Arthur Prudden, age 96, died peacefully on September 13, 2019, with family at his side. Arthur, or "Art" as he was known by family and friends, was born in Duluth, MN, but spent most of his life in the South. During WW II, he was a line officer aboard a sub-chaser in the Pacific theater of operations. He was a graduate of Duke University and of Georgetown University. Art worked in international marketing for the U.S. Commerce & State Departments most of his career, traveling extensively and moving with his family to live wherever he was transferred, both in the U.S. and abroad. His international assignments included Singapore, Milan Italy and Mexico City, where he was director of the U.S. Trade Center at each location. After he retired, he taught international marketing courses at SMU & UTD. He held active leadership roles in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and was active in other volunteer organizations. He was an avid reader and lover of music, having long been a member of several bands, including the Town North Concert Band and of "The Survivors Dixieland Band," a retiree group. He was an accomplished tuba player all of his life and continued to play the tuba in several bands in the Dallas area well into his 90's, including gigs at many retirement and senior communities in the area, as well as the annual tuba concert in Dallas' Thanksgiving Square each November. Earlier, he had played for years in the "Sorta Forty" band, a popular dance band in Atlanta. In the sixties, "Sorta Forty" released two professional LPs, which featured tuba solos played by Art. Art lived actively at the JLC independent living retirement community for over 15 years prior to moving to The Tradition Lover's Lane in mid-2018. He always spoke fondly of his many friends at both locations. He was also actively involved with the church community at Incarnation and with the church's Senior Saints group, and continued to participate in varied tuba-playing gigs, outings with friends, family gatherings, attending concert/theater performances and reading books. Art truly lived a long, full, rich life. He was preceded in death in 2003 by Claire, his beloved wife of 52 years, in 2011 by his sister Anita Leonard Wilder, in 1976 by his father Frank A. Leonard and in 1973 by his mother Mildred Anita Prudden Leonard. He is survived by: children, Dr. Frank A. Leonard (Debra Medlin Leonard), Ned A. Leonard, and Sally Leonard Reid (Frank A. Reid); brother, Dr. Walter P. Leonard (Mariette Huynh Leonard); and also seven grandchildren, a niece, several nephews, grandnephews, grandnieces, and two great grandchildren. Inurnment will be in the Church of Incarnation's Memorial Garden during a private service. His children invite family and friends to join them at Art's Memorial Service on October 7, 2019, at 1:30 PM, in the Memorial Chapel of Church of the Incarnation, 3066 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, TX 75204. His family will host a reception in the Church Parlor immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Art's name to the Church of the Incarnation – Pastoral Care (214-521-5101) or to the Magic Music Foundation (972-726-8742, in recognition of his lifelong passion for music). Handicap Entrance: For the memorial service on October 7th, please note that the handicap parking and entrance for the Memorial Chapel is on the east side of the church between the church building and Central Expressway/US 75. Look for the covered drive-through in the parking lot.
