Jason Michael Slingerland

Jason Michael Slingerland, beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on February 29, 2024 after a too-long battle with cancer. He was 52. Born in Groesbeck, Texas, to Sue Wigham and Michael Thomas Slingerland, he grew up alongside his sister, Jennifer Slingerland Ryan, in Idalou a home filled with love and laughter.

Jason's passion for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He loved camping, hunting, and golfing, and he found solace and joy in nature's beauty. His love for sports was unparalleled, with unwavering support for the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Tech Football. Jason's career and the friendships he formed were a significant part of his life, providing him with both purpose and camaraderie.

Although Jason was a very private person, his presence at any social gathering was unmistakable. He never took life too seriously and was always the life of the party, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Jason is survived by his sister, Jennifer, his son, Grant Thomas Slingerland, and his father, Michael Thomas Slingerland. He was a loving father, a cherished brother, and a loyal friend whose legacy of laughter and love will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.

I was Jason's Chaplain at Komatsu in Longview. I always enjoyed visiting Jason whenever I could. He was always open to converstion. I never heard him complain about his illness although I could tell that it took it's toll on him. All of Jason's coworkers loved and respected him. He will be missed very much in the purchasing department. There will always be an empty spot in all of our hearts.
