Pamela Sue Arthur
Mrs. Pamela “Pam” Sue Arthur, maiden name Orcutt died Wednesday, February 7th at Abba
Care Assisted Living in Garland, Texas at the age of 70, after a battle with Alzheimer ’s.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ricky Arthur; son, Brian Arthur; daughter Amy Pruitt
and husband Skyler; Granddaughters Hattie and Cora Pruitt; niece Kathryn Slack and husband
Jeffrey Slack; niece Elizabeth Thomas.
Pam was born on April, 15 1953 in Dallas, Texas to Gilbert and Pauline Orcutt. She graduated
from Bryan Adams High School in 1971, Vanderbilt University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science
in Mathematics and minor in physics, and The University of North Texas in 1983 with a Masters
of Education in Public School Administration. She married Ricky Jack Arthur in 1981 and
welcomed their son and daughter in 1984 and 1988 respectively. Her career in education began
in 1975 at J.B. Hood Junior High School teaching 7th – 9th grade math and continued until her
retirement in 2016 from John Paul II High School teaching pre-AP Algebra and AP Calculus. Her
teaching career in entirety also included teaching Pre-Algebra, pre-AP Geometry and AP
Calculus at W.W. Samuell High School from 1977 – 1989 and Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II,
Geometry, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus at Bryan Adams High school from 1989 – 2008 with a
part-time position teaching AP Calculus at Hillcrest High School from 2001 - 2003. In addition to
teaching, she served as a tennis coach and sponsor for pep squad, student council and key club
at W.W. Samuell High School, Senior Class sponsor at Bryan Adams High School and Mu Alpha
Theta sponsor at John Paul II High School. While teaching at Bryan Adams High School she was
awarded the O’Donnell Foundation AP Calculus Teacher of the Year in 1996 and the Bryan
Adams High School Teacher of the Year in 1997.
Pam was passionate about education so much so that she continued grading AP Calculus exams
into her retirement. She was a dedicated individual who loved math, dancing and having a good
time with her family and friends. She was an active and devout member of the New World
United Methodist Church and often volunteered to bring flowers to those who were sick or just
needed a smile and someone to talk to. She believed that it is important to care for others and
loved with her whole heart.
Visitation will be at New World United Methodist Church in Garland Texas on Friday, February 16th from 6 PM – 8
PM. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 17th at 1:00 PM at New World United
Methodist Church in Garland, Texas with short a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pam’s life.

Pam was a joy to be around and will be greatly missed by all. Her life’s work revolved around teaching math, mentoring to her students and fellow teachers, and serving the needs of her friends and community. She was most proud of her children, grandchildren, and Rick, the love of her life. We will always remember our friend, the one and only, Pam! ❤️
