Robert was born on January 22, 1949 to Robert Lee Copeland, Sr and Anna Burns Givens Copeland, in Lubbock, TX. He graduated from High School in Muleshoe, TX in the class of 1967. He went on to West Texas State University. After his first year joined the Army in 1969 - 1971. He served his tour in Vietnam and was wounded in combat. He earned Purple Heart and Bronze Star honors for his excellent performance during his tour.

After his recovery from several wounds which he received, then graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Social Welfare, minors in History and English. He worked for agencies in Lubbock and then returned to Muleshoe to help his Father out in his construction business.

 

He married Susan Garner from Friona, TX. They had been together for 38 years upon his passing. Having two children Bobby Joe Copeland and Donny Joe Copeland. They where living in Garland, TX. Survived also by one sister Pamela Gail Cawthorn and husband Ronnie Cawthorn of Winnsboro, TX. Proceeded in death by both parents.
