Margaret Josephine Gallagher

Gallagher, Margaret Josephine (Garland, Texas) October 27 th
The death has occurred of Margaret (Peggy) Gallagher (nee O’Connell), formerly of Ballyguy, Murroe,
Co. Limerick, and Millbrook Lawns, Tallaght, Co. Dublin, Ireland.
Predeceased by her husband Niall, her parents Thomas and Hannah (nee Nash) and Brother Patrick (Pat)
O’Connell of Killanahan, Patrickswell.
She is survived by her sister Bridie, her sons Joseph, Vincent and Sean, daughters Mary and Ann,
daughters-in-law Carmel and Samantha, sons-in-law Charlie (Vetvick) and Jim (Howe), granddaughters
Ciara and Sinead, grandson Joseph, great-granddaughters Amelia and Gabriella, nephews, extended
family, friends and neighbors.
Peggy was raised in Ballyguy by her uncle Paddy Nash and his sister Nellie Nash which was customary at
the time. She left school early and started working at Roches Stores in Limerick before moving to
Kilkenny to work for Home Knitters, where she met her husband Niall. They were married in 1966 and
lived in Dublin until 1980 when they moved the family back to Limerick. Their work with Home Knitters
and Passap had them traveling the length and breadth of Ireland. This nurtured her love of travel.
They moved to Dallas, Texas in 1993 where she started her next great adventure. She had always
wanted to move to America. She learned to drive at 52 and worked at Walmart for 11 years. She
explored Texas and travelled extensively across the United States. She had a love of geography and
history. Her recent trips included the headwaters of the Mississippi River in Minnesota, Niagara Falls in
New York, Maine, and Arkansas. Returning home, she loved to tell her friends the best stories of her
adventures.
Peggy often spoke of how her children were the best part of her life. She made birthdays and holidays
magical in very creative ways. She loved to entertain and was happiest surrounded by family and
friends.
Through her declining health, her fortitude and resolve were always clearly present. She passed
suddenly after a heroic battle against heart disease and COPD.
She was steadfast in her Christian faith. This gives us great comfort knowing she is now in the arms of
her Lord.
Visitation at Eastgate Funeral Home, Garland, Texas 75041, Thursday Evening, Nov 2 nd 6pm – 8pm.
Flowers if desired are appreciated. Alternatively, donations to support the recovery for victims of the
Lewiston, Maine tragedy dedicated to Peggy Gallagher would be also appreciated by the family.
