Milna Penafuerte

Milna Daquis Cordero was born on November 11, 1953, in Pandacan, Manila, Philippines.

Milna spent her elementary through secondary school years at St. Joseph’s School in Pandacan, Manila.

Milna went on to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture at Far Eastern University in Manila on October 7, 1974.

Milna had an admiration for ballet and dance from a young age and pursued it by joining the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company, the oldest and highly acclaimed dance company in the Philippines. Milna was a member of the troupe for a few years during her time at university.

After graduating university from 1975 to 1979, Milna worked as an architectural Specswriter at Mid-Asia Development Corp. and Draftswoman at Arcenas Payumo Dee Andrews

In 1979, Milna moved to the United States from Manila, Philippines. She briefly lived in California but ultimately decided to call Texas her home. Settling in Dallas, TX, she began her career in the hospitality industry where she met many lifelong friends.

In 1981, she started her family with the birth of her son, George. Together they were able to create adventures and travel all over the US and back to the Philippines.

Milna met Roberto in 1987 and married on June 10, 1990, making their home in Mesquite, TX. Deeply in love and inseparable, they would actively seek out adventures with close friends and look forward to a long and happy life together raising George. In the same year, she proudly became a citizen of the United States.

Five years later in 1995, Milna grew her family with the birth of her daughter, Lauralee. She eventually retired from the hospitality industry.

Milna later discovered her calling and passion for teaching children as she became more involved with her local church. For more than a decade, Milna taught 4th-grade students at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Garland, TX, and Kindergarten students at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Richardson, TX, and then went back to teaching 4th-grade students at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas, TX. Her unwavering faith and dedication led her to find fulfillment in shaping the young minds that she encountered over the years in the Faith Formation Ministries.

Milna left us on October 8, 2023, at the age of 69 after a courageous 7-year battle with kidney and heart failure.

Milna is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Roberto; children George and Lauralee; grandchild, Everly Quinn; older sisters, Rose, Nina, Edgie and younger brother Albert; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Milna was preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Juanita Cordero; and her brother, George Cordero.
