Ollie Dwain Hastings

Ollie Dwain Hastings was born on August 18, 1944 at home to a wonderful mother Maddie lee who was a loving influence up until adulthood, who he said, was his greatest loss and missed her every day.  In 1964 he married the other love of his life, Sherry, Jean Moore whom became a Hastings to this very day, and survives him with love, and many wonderful memories being married over 59 years.  He had two children, daughters Stacy Marie Hastings and Janet Ray Gilmore. He was blessed with four grand children, Kendrick Ray, Olivia Ray, Nathaniel bracken and Nicholas Bracken and several Great grandchildren.  He was blessed with a large family, two brothers, Clarence and Junior both have already went home with the Lord, as well as some of his sisters, Hazel Dorothy, Shirley, and Betty Sue. His living sisters are Billie trinkler, Carolyn, Southgate, and Nell shock.  He has many nieces, nephews and cousins, as family reunions were always plentiful and fun. He loved to cook and bring food and people love to eat it his brisket his steaks, as well as his famous carrot cake. Those times were precious to him, playing games

Such as poker poker and being with family. Other than Hard-work doing construction and being a supervisor most of his life, then taking care of his property, and growing vegetables,  family was the most important.  Due to an injury on the job his working career came to an end in 1988 and he and his wife bought land and retired in Canton, Texas.  In his 79 years that we were blessed to have him he did a lot of cooking and all who ever came by  benefited from it,  there wasn’t anything he couldn’t cook from pasta to cakes, pies and biscuits. He really enjoyed feeding everybody and anybody that stop by.  He loved his dogs and football being an  ever loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.  Due to his injuries and later in life, his bad knees and arthritis he was forced to slow down and succumbed to pneumonia after being a wonderful caregiver for over 15 years to his wife, who is on kidney dialysis.  All who knew them whether it was family friends or even at the café or Dialysis saw them as a dynamic duo and they were a great team that he was always proud of. His children, grandchildren sisters, as all of his family and friends will dearly miss him whether they saw him this week last week, a month or year ago. He truly believed if there is a will there is away. And that kept him going for those 79 years even when he was in pain. Love was the key to everything that motivated him. May he rest in true peace, and now being with his beloved mother and his numerous family enjoying a big family reunion in heaven, Amen and thank you to everyone for the prayers and thoughts along the way and throughout the years. He truly did appreciate it, and to the Lord Jesus, Christ, who was there always, and did not let him suffer long. took him home when it was time, his faith was personal to him but ever present especially in the end. It should give great peace to us, and all who love him to know that we will see him again in heaven. In Lieu of flowers in the family ask to give to an animal shelter to rescue dogs and animals to help feed them and take care of them and just be good to each other and pay it forward. It’s the little things. the Hastings family Thank you very much for your prayers.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date which is not known at this time. On a personal note, his wife, Sherry J. Hastings thanks you all and may God bless you and keep you in this beautiful thing we call life.
