Reverend Jerome Warren Brock

Reverend Jerome Warren Brock passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the age of 90. He had long anticipated being present with the Lord, Jesus Christ. Jerome is missed and fondly remembered for his warm personality, corny jokes, encouragement, and passion for sharing Christ’s love with anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Jerome was born February 12, 1933, in Athens, Tennessee, to parents Frances Marian Warren and Hobart Miller Brock. His grandfather, Dr. Rome Albert Brock, who was the McMinn County physician, delivered Jerome at a whopping ten pounds in the front bedroom of their home. Jerome’s early childhood memories centered around this busy farmhouse with animals and a produce garden that fed them very well.

“I loved the outdoors-hunting, fishing, swimming, sports, and bike riding. I was somewhat of a free spirit in that I always liked to have fun in God’s great outdoors. My family moved often because of the depression years, but I still enjoyed riding my bike and playing sandlot football with my friends.”

Jerome graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, Tennessee, in 1951. Not only was Jerome the captain of the football team his senior year, but he was also the Class President and was voted “Mr. Clinton High School”. Jerome was invited to sign up for the West Point prep school but opted out.

Instead, he accepted a football scholarship from Georgia Tech. After an injury that ended his football career, Jerome transferred to the University of Tennessee, where he graduated in 1955 with a B.S. in Business Administration. “Go Vols!” Jerome met Margie Sue Stokes when he was the head lifeguard at the Valley View Beach swimming hole in Claxton, Tennessee. He immediately asked her out, and their lives changed forever. Jerome and Margie were married in 1955. Early in their marriage, their Sunday school teacher, Mrs. Miller, introduced them to Christ, and they accepted the gift of His salvation. Soon after that, they felt called into ministry, and Jerome left his sales career to pastor several small Methodist churches before entering seminary. Jerome received a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary and spent his mid-ministry years as an ordained Presbyterian Minister in Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and Washington state. Some notable events in Jerome’s ministry were helping to launch Peninsula Bible Fellowship in Bremerton, Washington, and Fellowship Bible Church of Park Cities in Dallas, Texas (Fellowship Dallas). He served as pastor of Fellowship Bible Church, Longview, Texas, and most notably, as Pastor of Evangelism at Fellowship Bible Church-North under Dr. Gene Getz, the founder of the Fellowship Bible Church movement. Here, Jerome became known for his weekly greeting: “Jesus loves you, and so do we.” Jerome and Margie were married for 65 years until Margie’s passing in 2020. Together, they raised five children. Jerome and Margie were members at Woodcreek Church in Richardson, Texas.

Jerome served in the Army as a cryptologist with a Top-Secret military clearance in the mid-1950s. He entered the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1967 as Chaplain. Jerome traveled the U.S. and the world serving active duty. After twenty-six years of service, Jerome received a Naval Captain’s retirement ceremony in 1993.

Jerome is survived by his five children, Mickey Newberry, Rebecca Allen, Jenni Hubby, Grace Brock, and Jerome Brock. He is also survived by his sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, Martin Allen, Meade Hubby, and Tara Brock. His grandchildren include Brittany Miller, Victoria Allen, Leah Clemmer, husband Andrew Clemmer, Frances Brock, Flynn Brock, Kristen Hubby, Desiree’ Wells, and husband Tyler Wells. Jerome had two great-grandchildren, Axel Wells and Kade Wells.

Jerome’s surviving relatives reside in Huntsville, Alabama. He will also be missed by Margie’s surviving family located in Tennessee, North Carolina, Mississippi, and California.

Friends, colleagues, and family are encouraged to attend the Celebration of Life service on Thursday, October 12, at 10:00 AM. Please wear blue in memory of Jerome’s service in the U.S. Navy.

The family requests that donations go to Woodcreek Church at https://woodcreekchurch.churchcenter.com/giving. Jerome loved red and white roses and carnations if you prefer to send flowers. Florist: https://www.rowletttxflorist.com/#.
