Vargheese John

Pastor Vargheese John was born on February 27th, 1939 in Kulakkada, Kerala, India to the late Mr. Yohannan Joseph and Mrs. Kuttiyamma Yohannan of the Poovakkara family. He was the first of six children. Pastor Vargheese John accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and wasbaptized at the age of 19. On March 25th, 1965 he married Marykutty, the daughter of late Pastor Y. Zachariah and Rachel Zachariah. He went onto Bible college in Mavelikkara and started his ministry in 1972, pastoring in Komalloor, Karichal, Ernakulam, Venmony, Mundakayam, Elappara, Kalamassery, and Karikkam. His unwavering love for God and dedication to his calling touched the lives of many, leaving an enduring legacy of inspiration, compassion, and devotion. In 1988, Pastor and his family migrated to Dallas, Texas and was a member of New Garland Church of God, after which he attended Philadelphia Church, and was then a part of the establishment of Zion Church. His days were filled with continual prayer, worship, and spending time in God's word. Throughout his ministry, Pastor displayed a remarkable ability to connect with people on an intimate level. He dedicated himself to the well-being of the church congregation by offering guidance and support to all who sought his counsel. His love for others knew no bounds, and he selflessly served as a beacon of hope and comfort. He was blessed wit the talent to write poems, songs, and was able to publish two books “Azhathille Cherumuthukal” and “Ente Uthamageethangal” which were filled with wisdom, grace, and fervent conviction that inspired many. He was also a frequent columnist for Kerala Express and his words resonated deeply, providing solace to those in need and lighting a path towards salvation. Pastor Vargheese John entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 21st, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Marykutty V. John; his children, Annie and Thomas Paul, Aji and Abraham Mathew; his grandchildren, Justin and Michelle Paul, Stephen Mathew, Janice Paul, Jason Paul, and Sharon Mathew.
