Mondell Lindsey Welch

Mondell Lindsey Welch, at the wonderful age of 88, passed from this life in the early morning
hours on June 2, 2023 in Cedar Hill, Texas. Mondell was a beloved daughter, wife, and mother
of three girls.
Mondell was born on March 28, 1935 in the home of her great grandmother Rovena DeVlaming
to Martha Ann and Ernest Dobbs in Kaufman, Texas. She was the only child of the couple.
Mondell was adopted by her father Leonard Taft Wells, when he married Martha Ann later in
Mondell’s childhood. Mondell was involved in numerous activities during her early years. She
was a cheerleader at Mesquite High School and an all-district basketball player, lettering all four
years of high school. Her outside activities included riding in the Mesquite Rodeo participating
in the art of quadrille - square dancing on horseback.
Mondell was married to James Thomas Lindsey in September of 1955. In 1957, they moved
from Dallas to Houston. During their marriage they had three daughters, Vanya Lynn, Kayla,
and Melada. Mondell was a homemaker and a wonderful seamstress making nearly all her
daughters’ clothing as well as decorative items for their home. Mondell was active at her
children’s school participating in PTA and school events.
In 1966, Mondell and her girls moved back to her family home in the Dallas area. Mondell was
a graduate of Draughon’s Business College of Dallas. She worked as an accountant for Rexel
USA, formerly Summers Electric, for nearly 30 years.
In her later years, Mondell married the last love of her life, Ezra Clifton “Cliff” Welch on January
28, 1995. Mondell and Cliff enjoyed traveling and were able to visit many exotic locations from
Australia to Alaska. In addition to traveling, Cliff and Mondell enjoyed gardening and doing
things around their lovely home. From the garden, Mondell and Cliff provided family and friends
with fresh produce and donated weekly to the Cedar Hill Food Pantry. Mondell was an avid
carpenter and in her workshop she turned out many beautiful pieces for friends and family.
Mondell was also a talented decorative painter and would often paint pieces she made in her
shop.
Mondell was active with the Senior Center of Cedar Hill. She especially loved line dancing and
was a member of a line dancing group that performed at various events for many years.
Mondell loved traveling with the Senior Center group and she treasured the many friendships
she made at the Center.
Mondell is survived by her loving husband of 28 years Cliff Welch, daughter Vanya Lynn Worley
and her husband Jerry, daughter Kayla Lindsey Russell, and daughter Melada Lindsey
Reichman and her husband Jay. Mondell is also survived by three granddaughters Meagan
Elyse Russell Crouch and her husband Austin, Lindsey Taylor Worley, Lauren Madison
Reichman and great granddaughter Adalyn Elyse Crouch.
Mondell was blessed to expand her family when she married Cliff to include son Wayne Welch
and his wife Mary and daughter Cheryl Welch Hastings and her husband Pepper.

Grandchildren include Chris Welch and his wife Jaclyn, Morgan Welch, Drew Hastings and his
wife Alyssa, and Scott Hastings and great grandchildren Jaxon, Riley, and Barrett Welch,
Sammie, Miranda, Emmalee and Bailey Grace Rodarte, and Ruby Hastings.
Mondell is preceded in death by her mother Martha Ann Wells, father Leonard Taft Wells,
son-in-law Charles Russell, and granddaughter Elizabeth Welch Rodarte.
A memorial service in celebration of Mondell’s life will be held on July 16, 2023 at 2:30 in the
afternoon at Crossroads Rowlett Church 7900 Chiesa Rd, Rowlett, TX 75089. In lieu of flowers,
Mondell’s family requests donations to be made to Crossroads Rowlett Church
