Wilber Duane Snell

W. Duane Snell, age 92, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 27, 2023, at his residence in McKinney, Texas.

Duane was born on November 9, 1930 to Samuel and Christine Snell in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was the oldest of four children where he grew up in Wichita Falls and graduated from Wichita Falls High School. Soon after graduating from high school, he met Charlotte Hernblom at the A&P grocery store where he worked, and they soon began dating. He briefly attended Midwestern University in Wichita Falls but enlisted in the Navy and served in the Korean War from 1951-1954. After six years of dating, Duane married Charlotte on August 4, 1956 and then attended Southern Methodist University before graduating from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1961.  Together, Duane and Charlotte raised their family of three children, Susan, Steve, and Nancy.

Duane was a dentist for 50 years in Dallas where he had a successful practice and had the privilege of working alongside his sister, Helen, who was his chairside assistant for most of those years.

During his life, Duane loved to travel with his wife and family, where they went on many adventures together. He also loved camping and was a Boy Scout Leader of his son, Steve’s, scout troop. Duane was a follower of Jesus Christ and a member of First Baptist Church of Dallas, where he served as a greeter and on the camera crew on Sunday mornings.

Duane was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte Snell, of 64 years. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Mathews and son-in-law, Ward Mathews; son, Stephen Snell and daughter-in-law Deborah Snell; daughter Nancy Fields and son-in-law Todd Fields; grandchildren David Mathews, Stephen Mathews, Christian Mathews, Stephanie Snell, Samuel Snell, Kaitlyn Fields, and Luke Fields; and three sisters, Neva Davis, Helen Stevenson, and Kay Lybarger and brother-in-law John Lybarger.
