Terry Louie McDuffie

There is a line in the famous hymn It is Well with My Soul that begins with, “And Lord haste the day when my faith shall be sight.”  On September 28, 2022 this became the reality for Terry Louie McDuffie.  His passing was sudden and a shock to those who loved him, but it was no surprise to the Sovereign Lord who greeted Terry as he quickly slipped from this world to eternal worship.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Louie Wilson McDuffie and Francis Vinette McDuffie; his sister, Charlotte Ann McDuffie, and his beloved brother-in -law, David Hall.

Terry is survived by his wife Janie; son, Scott McDuffie and his wife Tammie; son, Garrick McDuffie; daughter, Janna McDuffie; grandson, Dylan McDuffie; sister, Wanda Hall; sister, Sandra Warrick and brother-in-law Charles Warrick; brother-in law Gerald Hayes; and adopted-in-love daughter, Heidi Laswell.  Terry is also survived by a host of relatives whom he loved dearly, each and every one.

There will be a Celebration of Terry’s life at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, TX 75060 on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 1714 N Story Rd.  Family visitation will be at 11:00, followed by the Celebration of Life service at 12:00 P.M.

Terry Louie McDuffie was born in Jasper, TX on November 18, 1946 to the parents of Louie and Vinette McDuffie.  He loved and respected his parents deeply. And his sisters, Wanda Hall and Sandra Warrick were a source of his intense pride and unwavering brotherly love. Terry graduated from Jasper High School in 1965. He was so fond of his childhood in Jasper.  This is where Terry began his relationship with Jesus, where he had wonderful memories with his close-knit relatives and ran around with his life- long friends.

It was in Jasper that Terry also met the love of his life, Janie.  Janie says what first drew her attention to Terry was his big beautiful smile, the act of being a gentleman, and his outgoing nature.  Terry and Janie’s brief encounter as young children eventually led to a first time car ride on the way to Lamar University where they both graduated.  It was there where they formed a bond that led to a faithful marriage on January 20, 1968.  He passionately loved his family. His passing leaves a gap in their lives that will always be a gentle reminder of his love and legacy that continues through his family today.

Terry enjoyed talking sports and being in God’s great outdoors whenever possible.  He drew great peace in the woods and on the water.  There will be many memories shared by those who spent time with Terry discussing the latest ballgames, walking with him on a game trail or fishing together in a boat.

Terry made friends everywhere.  He found such great pleasure in learning about people and becoming a servant-friend to those who needed it.  No one knew that better than those friends at his decades-long employer, Mary Kay Cosmetics.  There are so many stories of how Terry walked side by side with many a co-worker as they experienced the joys and trials of life. Many have said that he was the kindest and gentlest man they had ever met.  His faith and love in Christ was evident in his words and actions wherever he went.

Terry also loved his church and his brothers and sisters in Christ.  Over the years, Terry served and worshipped at MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church in Irving, TX.  From rocking tiny babies to working with youth and serving as deacon, Terry had an impact on many lives.  Eventually, Terry and Janie came home to Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving.  One of Terry’s greatest passions was teaching and serving in his Sunday School class.  Studying and sharing God’s Word and love brought him such great joy.

Terry always said he had only one request at his passing and that was to use his life’s story as a means to point people to Jesus.  We honor that today.  If you read this, know that Terry will be missed but that he is with his Lord because years ago he had an encounter with Jesus Christ that changed his life forever.  There is a God who sent His Son to die for our sins.  This God wants to have a living relationship with you today. We pray that you begin your relationship with the Lord by understanding His sacrifice for you and acknowledge Him and as your Lord and Savior.   Romans 10:13- For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Blessings on all of those who grieve and laugh with us in these days.  Please share your stories and memories as we treasure our relationship with Terry.

Condolences

While I never worked directly with Terry, our paths crossed many times when I worked at Mary Kay. As you correctly stated, he was one of the nicest people I’’Ve ever met. He always took time to talk with me and you could tell he was genuinely interested in whatever I had to say. I can only imagine the hole that his passing has caused In so many peoples’ lives. Sending virtual hugs to all those saddened by his loss.

Although we can’t be there for Terry’s service, our hearts and our most sincere prayers are there with the family. We loved Terry so much. If there is something good to say in the midst of our sorrow, I’m so glad we were all together about 2 weeks before he passed through heaven’s gates. I can only imagine what he must be experiencing now. We love you all, Randy and Vicki

Terry was the kindest sincere person I ever had the pleasure of working with! He always had such a positive mental attitude and could make you feel better after a brief conversation! We talked fishing, family and about the Lord many times, but most of all the trust I had in Terry! He will surely be missed, but never forgotten from my memory! RIP my friend and May you find peace dwelling in the house of our Lord!

Terry always had a kind word and open, listening heart. His faith in God and people was contagious. We ran into each other at a Barnes and Noble one day - we were both retired by then. We sat and talked as if it was just yesterday we had seen had other, even though it had been a few years. May you be blessed with memories of all the wonderful times you shared together.
