James Robert Brummett - Jim to the world and Papa to his family - was born on July 28, 1936, at home in Childress, Texas. He passed away with his family beside him at home on September 11, 2022, after a difficult journey with Alzheimer's. He was the second child, but first born son, to Frank Brummett and Ruth Henderson Brummett. He attended school in Childress until Jim and his family moved to Garland, Texas, for his junior and senior years of high school, where he graduated from Garland High School in 1954. Texas A&M University followed. Jim is preceded in death by his father; mother; first child, Jay Brummett; sister, Barbara Speights; and brother, Johnny Brummett. He is survived by: Wife of 39 years, Marilyn; daughter Brandi and son-in-law Jeff Bassett, and their children Joseph and SarahBeth; daughter Laurie and son-in-law Tony Arterburn, and their children TJ, Andrew, Taylor, Aaron, and Trevor, and their nine grandchildren. Daughter Sheryl and son-in-law Randy Johnson, and their children Savannah, Jayden, and Camden. Working for 62 years, Jim only had two employers: M.E. Bennett Engineering and Texas Department of Transportation. His long tenure with both employers bears witness to the valued employee he was. He retired in 2019. Jim and Marilyn were members of First Baptist Church of Garland and First Baptist Church of Rockwall over the years. They enjoyed teaching children's Sunday school together at both churches. Marilyn and family want especially to thank the highly professional, kind, and compassionate members of Jim's hospice team from New Century Hospice: Laura, Nona, and Kyla. Each of you were a gift to our beloved Jim and to her. Words cannot express their gratitude to Quilici Battle who shared her love of Jesus with Jim as she cared for him with her unique wit, love, and experience. You each made a special bond with Jim and with Marilyn, and they are so grateful. A Jim Brummett Scholarship is being created at Heritage Christian Academy in Rockwall, Texas, to be given to a senior student who is characterized by hard-work and service to others. If desired, contributions may be made to the Jim Brummett Scholarship.

Marilyn, Brandi, Laurie, Sheryl I'm saying good-bye to Jim Brummett and wishing you all the strength you'll need to bear up under your loss. I owe a big debt of gratitude to Jim for a lot of things, not the least of which is his help in dealing with my loss when my mother and grandfather passed within a month of each other, both suddenly and without warning. He helped me make decisions that may affect the rest of my life. I will always feel the greatest affection when I think of Jim. You have my best wishes for the future, I know it will be hard. Love now and ever.
