Patricia Ann (Smayda) Jefferies, age 76, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 of congestive heart failure while hospitalized in Plano, Texas. Pat was born December 22, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio to Joseph F. Smayda and Margaret K. (Maryo) Smayda. After graduation from Mayfield High School in 1960, she lived in Brownsville, Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri. Pat attended St. Louis University. Pat married Thomas R. Jefferies on June 13, 1964 in Lyndhurst, Ohio. They lived in the Cleveland area until Tom received his accounting degree in 1967. In 1968 they moved to the Dallas area and built their home in Garland, Texas where they raised their children and enjoyed friendships for over 50 years with many neighbors. Pat was an excellent cook, and loved to cook old Hungarian recipes handed down from her mother while hosting family for birthdays and holiday meals. Pat and Tom loved to take cruises and completed 49 over the last 20 years. Her favorite places were Alaska and their weekend house in the piney woods in East Texas. Pat also enjoyed reading and was a member of Critics' Choice Book Club and Woman of the Word Bible Study Group. Pat was a stay at home mother when her children were in school and was very active in the PTA. She was a member of Garland Junior League and a founding member of The New Beginnings Center which assisted women of domestic abuse. Pat had her own bookkeeping business. She subsequently worked as the office manager of Christian Care Centers for a number of years. Pat was a great wife, mother, gram, sibling and friend who was a great listener and loved unconditionally. She committed herself to Christ as a teenager and as her physical body began to fail she looked forward to meeting Jesus in heaven and reuniting with her parents, brother and friends who had predeceased her. She fought a courageous battle with strength and grace over the last 12 years with a multitude of health issues. Pat is survived by her husband Thomas R. Jefferies of Garland, Texas; son T. Wade Jefferies of Austin, Texas; daughter Kristin M. Naylor and husband Bill of Fate, Texas; granddaughter Morgan K. Naylor of Fate, Texas; brother Thomas J. Smayda and wife Shirley of Concord, Ohio; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Max. Pat is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Marge Smayda and brother Joe Smayda, Jr. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Eastgate Funeral Home Chapel, 1910 Eastgate Drive, Garland, TX 75041.
