Billie Ted Hoggatt, 95, passed away March 23, 2019, at Menard Manor in Menard, Texas. He was born Sept. 26, 1923, on a farm near Davilla, Milam County, Texas, to Myrtle Mandy (Johnson) and Theodore Eddis Hoggatt. Ted wrote the story of his early life in his own words in 2012 here: https://billieted.wordpress.com/ In this story he reminisces about how many family members - immediate, blended, and extended - took care of each other throughout hard times during the Great Depression, his and his friends daily life in both Texas and Colorado, his time as a student, his several - before and after - school jobs, and his WWII service as a Navy Phm 1st class and independent duty corpsman. He goes on to talk about meeting, courting and marrying his two loving wives that he was so deeply dedicated to and the families they raised. He remembers the business he was involved with for over 50 years and several multi-continent travels. He declares how his savior Jesus Christ guided him in decision making throughout his life. Throughout his life Ted was always active. He was involved in his church as a Deacon and Treasurer. He enjoyed ping-pong, bowling, volleyball, golf, tennis, bicycling – even backward!, gardening, fishing, bee keeping, swimming, Rving, traveling, building houses, and corralling the kids with a mighty whistle. In later years at Tip 'O Texas RV Park in Pharr, Texas, he became an avid card game player making sure he knew ALL the rules. At the RV park he spent many days, well into his 90's, playing what was comically called Texas Two Step Tennis – they played doubles and if the ball was more than two steps away, they didn't go after it! In 2015 one of his friends at the RV Park arranged for him to travel to Washington, D.C., with the Honor Flight Program. He wore his WWII Veteran cap with pride nearly every day after that trip. He was known for his generosity. Several charities and ministries around the world were regular recipients of his prayerful generosity as well as many family members that received checks in the mail that were for an amount that was exactly what was needed at that exact moment. He is survived by four of his five children: son Michael Ted Hoggatt and wife Debbie of Elizabethton, Tennessee, son Jon Clayton Hoggatt and wife Diana of Columbia, South Carolina, daughter Terri Michelle James of Spicewood, Texas, and daughter Brenda Jo Hoggatt and husband Victor Troy Branyon of Voca, Texas, and son-in-law L.M. Duke Snider and wife Vicky of Powell, Wyoming. Also, by his grandchildren: Pamela Ruth (Snider) Lee and husband Lyndal, Jon Simeon Snider and wife Martha, Nathan Daniel Hoggatt and wife Kathleen, Kimberly Ann Hoggatt, Allen Joseph Hoggatt, Bryan Ted Hoggatt, Olivia Abigail Hoggatt, James Benjamin Hoggatt, Emily Michelle Herrman, Kary Lois (Herrman) Crow and husband Aaron, Taelor Alysse Monroe, Jo Anna (Ivey) Gilland and husband Aaron, and Jesse Patrick Ivey and wife Virginia. Also, by his great-grandchildren: Amanda Ruth (Lee) Lee, Jessica Marion (Lee) Hostetter, Josie Ann Lee, Sadie LouAnn (Snider) Bartling, Megan Grace (Snider) Rudasill, Austen Taylor Matzig, Charles Daniel Crow, Sydney Alysse Crow, Tyler David Crow, Maya Ryan Monroe, Landry Dean Hoggatt, Mandy Paige Ivey, Dallie Jean Ivey, Joe Patrick Ivey, Haddie Lynn Ivey, Langley Jolynn Gilland (due July 2019). Also, by his great-great grandchildren: Eli Edward Bartling, Lyle Garrett Bartling (due April 2019), Rylee Grace Rudasill, Zoey Joyce Rudasill (due April 2019), and Jaclyn Tracey Lee. Ted is also survived by many nieces and nephews, lifelong friends from all over the United States, and his caring friends, Betty and Bill Mauck, of Pharr, Texas. Several of these friends and family members attended his 95th birthday party last October. He was fond of his caregivers at both Sodalis San Marcos and Menard Manor. Soralis Haspice provided loving care at the end of his life. The family is very grateful to all three. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Bonnie Dell (Hoggatt) Hagler, Richard Donnell Hoggatt, Burl Lee Hoggatt, and Joyce Gwyn Hoggatt, and his loving wives Lois (James) and Dorothy (Shaw), his loving companion Clara Orians, and his daughter Patricia Ann 'Sissy' (Nichols) Snider.
