Jane Dudley Tooley

Jane was born December 22, 1940 in Biloxi, Mississippi to Raymond and Georgia Jackson and passed from this life on December 12, 2018 after years of battling the effects of Chronic Venous Insufficiency in her legs. Her father was in the army so she grew up in in thirteen different cities after Biloxi. These included Savannah, Georgia; Little Rock, Arkansas; New Orleans, Louisiana; El Paso, Texas; Okinawa, Japan; and finally Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was so excited to attend all four years at Northwest Classen High School. Jane loved all things athletics and sports. She aspired to be a physical education teacher and enrolled at the University of Oklahoma. OU would become a very proud part of her identity. You would never see her without OU visible on a pin, shirt, jewelry, shoes, purse, car, or license plate. Jane did not reach her goal of becoming a PE teacher because she found an even greater passion while a student at OU. In 1960, Jane married fellow student Richard Tooley and promptly quit college. She was his devoted and loving wife until the day he died 47 years later. In 1962 before the birth of their first child, Eric, they moved to Dallas, Texas. Richard went to work for Texas Instruments and Jane became the manager of their apartment complex. In 1963, on a beautiful November day, Jane carried her son two blocks to see the motorcade of President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline. She said they both smiled and waved directly at her exactly 18 minutes before the president was assassinated. In 1964, she moved to Garland, Texas. Later that year a teenage drunk driver hit their car head-on. Neither her husband nor her two-year-old son were expected to live through the night. She broke her leg and her back. Somehow, Jane cared for them both through a long recovery until her husband returned to work a year later. Daughter Dyana was born in 1968. To stay home to raise her children, Jane did childcare in her home. These children grew to see her as a second mom and would stay in touch with her long into their adult years. In 1976, she moved to Richardson, Texas where she lived 42 years until her death. In 1980, she went to work as the cafeteria manager at Liberty Junior High School in the Richardson Independent School District. 25 years later in 2005, Jane retired from this same position. She dedicated her final years to caring for her ailing husband and then her ailing mother. When her leg condition required her to move to assisted living, she dedicated her time to caring for the other residents and was even named a Resident Ambassador. Jane is survived by her son Eric Tooley and his wife Angela of Allen, TX; daughter (and namesake) Dyana Jane McIntire and her husband Rick of Richardson, TX; granddaughter Sara Nichols and her husband David of Richardson, TX; Great-granddaughters (and namesake) Gracie Jane Nichols, Anna Nichols, and Evie Nichols; and sister Helen Jackson and her husband Mike Meachum of Bentonville, AR. Jane would insist on also listing her dog Trixie and granddogs Dash, Rosie, and Daisy. We thank God for the life of Jane Jackson Tooley. Services will be held at CARE Church in Richardson, Texas on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Visitation with the family will be immediately afterward.
