Charlene Mae Frens

Charlene Mae Frens passed away in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Charlene was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on April 22, 1946. She was one of four children, second in line, born to Harold and Dorothy Young. Charlene attended Kelloggsville Schools and also during her younger years started taking a bus to three church services on Sunday. Charlene was a stay at home mother of two (Paula and Steven) until 1979, which kept her very busy as she was always involved in her children's school. She was active in the PTA, she was always helping out in all school activities. Charlene was also Bluebird Troup Leader, Brownie Troup Leader and Girl Scout Troup Leader while her daughter Paula was involved in those activities. Charlene never accepted that there are strangers in this world. She would even make new friends standing in line at the supermarket. She would give you her coat off her back if you needed it. She also loved to read and expand on her vocabulary. She retired from Aquinas College where she worked in Student Account Collections Department. Charlene moved to Texas in 2012 to move closer to her daughter, grand-children and great grand-children whom she loved very much. She was an active member at her church Gods Tabernacles Of Deliverance. Here is a true story – she got lost one day coming home from the store and "found" her church. She felt an immediate connection to the church and its members. Charlene was preceded in death by her father, Harold Young, her mother, Dorothy Young, her sister, Shirley Fisher, her brother, Greg Young and her son-in-law, Richard Ortiz. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Bredeweg, her brother-in-law Robert Bredeweg, her daughter, Paula Ortiz, her son, Steven Frens, her grand-son, Richard Ortiz, her grand-daughters Jessica Rivera Ortiz and Kirstie Ortiz, plus many great-grand children, nieces, nephews and a lot of friends.
