Bryce Adair Weigand

Bryce Adair Weigand of Dallas, Texas died peacefully on October 23, 2018 after courageously battling a brief illness. He was 71 years old. Bryce is survived by his wife, Trish, and their sons and families: Becca and Philip Weigand (children Ouisie and Michael) of Houston, Texas and Katherine and Graham Weigand of Houston, Texas. In addition, he is survived by brothers and families: Judy and Rex Weigand of Dallas, Texas and Cindy and Willis Weigand of Georgetown, Texas. He has 2 nieces and 1 nephew, 2 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews, along with many cousins. Bryce is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Harvey Weigand of Cherokee, Oklahoma. Bryce was born on August 26, 1947 in Alva, Oklahoma to Ruth and Harvey Weigand. He had wonderful life on the family farm, running track and playing many sports in high school, and entered Oklahoma State University in 1965. He graduated with a BA in Architecture in 1971. He and Trish were married in 1971 and they moved to Atlanta to begin their life together. Bryce began work with Thompson, Ventulett & Stainback where he worked on many noteworthy projects. In 1976 a move was made to Dallas where Bryce began his leadership role at Corgan Architects. He was involved in many large projects, named Young Architect of the Year in 1980 for Dallas AIA, started serving Dallas AIA and State AIA in leadership roles, joined the Architect's Enclave in 1982, welcomed the birth of Philip in 1980 and Graham in l983. In 1993 Weigand was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows. In 1993, Bryce joined GFF as a principal and remained with the firm until his retirement in 2012. He was involved in institutional and religious projects for the firm. He served as Dallas Chapter AIA President in 1997, Texas Society of Architects President in 2002, and was on the national AIA Board of Directors from 2003-2006. He remained active in all aspects of both local and state levels of AIA. He, along with the firm, received many awards for architectural achievements and design. He was awarded the Pitts Medal of Lifetime Achievement for the Texas Society of Architects in 2015. Bryce joined the Southwestern Watercolor Society in 1976 and served as President, received his signature membership as well as an honorary lifetime member award. He received many awards and recognitions in architecture both locally and at state levels. He served the community through his work on building committees at both First Presbyterian Church Dallas, the Dallas Holocaust Museum, and the City of Dallas. Bryce was also known for his sketch books that chronicled all aspects of his life from conceptual ideas of projects to family trips and sketches for future watercolors. Most of all, Bryce was a truly faithful Christian. He loved his family – wife, sons, daughters-in-law and he especially loved his grandchildren, Ouisie and Michael. They were his joys! He loved spending time at Buffalo Ranch with family and friends, writing poetry, reading, water coloring, all things architectural and his dog Annie. Bryce touched many lives. He was brave, strong, happy, honest, and a lover of life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to First Presbyterian Church of Dallas Foundation, at 1835 Young Street, Dallas, Texas 75201. A memorial service is scheduled at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas on November 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
