Halean "Bug" Shipman Myer

Her nickname "Bug" came from "You're cute as a bug." She was born in Adair County, Oklahoma. She was married in Great Bend, Kansas on November 6, 1943. Halean passed away in San Antonio, Texas on October 23, 2018 due to natural causes, possible complication from pneumonia. "Bug" was predeceased by her father Elvis Allan Shipman and her mother Dessie Vick Shipman and by her siblings Maxine Kendall, Robert Shipman, MOM, Elza Shipman, George Shipman and Jack Shipman, her husband Lt. Col. Paul R. Myer, USAF, Retired, Deceased, his children Paul Richard Myer Jr. (PR), Ronald Gary Myer, Judy Halean Myer Naylor and Judy's daughter Carrie Gail Naylor (granddaughter). her son-in-law Robert Thomas (Tommy) Cole. Halean is survived by Bobbie Lee Myer Cole, James Edwin Myer and wife Lila Valdeana Myer, and many great and great-great grandchildren. Mom was a Military wife, and mother to five children. Mom raised the children as Dad completed 25 missions in WW2, and then they both traveled the world as duty called. Mom spoke of memories from Japan, Okinawa, Brussels (and European day trips). Back stateside, time was spent in Rapid City SD and Wichita Falls TX, the city Dad retired from. The family spent two years in Wichita KS before Dad could land a job bringing them back to Texas. Once four of the kids were high school graduates, Mom became a Nurse's assistant at Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital. Mom was an active member of the Officers Wives Club, and this organization was instrumental in the planning and development of Air Force Villages in San Antonio TX. Mom spent her last twelve or so years at AFV, first in a stay alone apartment, then assisted living and finally in the skilled nursing area. Workers from both Freedom House Assisted Living and The Missions Skilled Nursing Center consistently told me how much they appreciated Mom's spirit, conversations and smile. Mom just had a knack for making people around her feel good.
