Michael Joseph Serna

Michael "Mike" Serna died peacefully at home in Mesquite, TX on September 22, 2018. Loved ones who will miss Michael until we are reunited again are his son, Michael Joseph Serna, Jr. of Mesquite, TX and daughter, Kaley of Lubbock, TX; father, Joseph, and mother, Diana of Mesquite, TX; brother, Robert of Fort Worth, TX, and sister, Jennifer of Garland, TX; grandmother, Jenni of Santa Fe, NM; nieces Adelina, Penelope, Abigail, and Lucia; and nephew David. Michael is preceded in death by his grandparents, Margarito and Julia Garcia of Hobbs, NM; grandfather, Joe Serna of Santa Fe, NM; and uncles James and Mark Garcia. Michael was born on July 16, 1978 in Garland, TX to Joseph and Diana Serna. He graduated from South Garland High School in 1997. He moved to Lovington, NM then to Hobbs, NM before returning to the place he called home, Texas. Michael was proud of many things from his tattoos, his exceptional beard, the Dallas Cowboys, and loyalty. However, his greatest joys in life were his family. He fiercely loved his children and they meant the world to him. Kaley is his beautiful baby girl who always warmed his heart and brought the biggest smiles to his face. Mikey is big and strong just like his dad. He is also silly, kind, and sensitive (just like his dad). Michael loved his parents and they loved him. He is the first born, a rebel, and a prodigal son. He embodied the best parts of his parents. He is a giver like his father as well as the life of the party. They share big personalities and tender hearts. Michael was the glue that holds us together and the rock we depended on, just like mom. Michael and mom share a unique bond, a beautiful relationship. Mom spent everyday caring for her baby boy, raising him to become a man that would one day go off on his own to become a father. Then, when illness forced Michael to return home, she would once again care for her son, day and night. They laughed and cried together. Michael fought a great battle and he did not do it alone. He was loved. Prior to his passing, Michael accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior. We believe God called Michael home and made a place for His son. We hold on to the wonderful hope that we will one day be with Michael again. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, September 27th from 6pm to 8pm at Eastgate Funeral Home, 1910 Eastgate Dr, Garland, TX 75041. A funeral is scheduled for Friday, September 28th at 10:30am at St Michael's Catholic Church, 950 Trail Parkway, Garland, TX 75043 with Father Signu officiating at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, 4600 N Beltline Rd, Sunnyvale, TX 75182. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Michael's life.
