Elizabeth Culbertson

Elizabeth Abshier Culbertson was born on the family farm in Hardin County Texas. She grew up in Liberty, Texas, attended college at the University of Texas at Austin, and completed her degree at Sam Houston State Teachers College. She met Cub at an Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship camp in her second year of college and they were married three years later. Early marriage took them from medical training in Philadelphia to active duty U S Naval service in Charleston and San Diego and then back to medical training in New York City. She had her first child while in New York (unfortunately making him a Yankee) and her other 3 children here in Dallas. For the next 60 years she created a loving stable home for her four children and her husband. She knew who they were, what they needed, and consistently gave of herself what it took to make them successful. Cub went on a number of short term medical mission trips. She made most of the preparations and went on many of those trips herself. She supported him wherever he went and whatever he did. She made it possible for the children to go as well. She was involved in Women In the Church for a number of years. As she grew older, even with her declining hearing, sight, mobility, and energy, she managed to shine her light on all around her. Though we know she is now with Jesus, she will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorials be given to Park Cities Presbyterian Church (world mission projects) or New Covenant Presbyterian Church.
