Georgia Mae Young

Georgia Mae Donald Young was born in the small farming community of Bristol, Texas near Ennis on October 5, 1922. Her parents Tony and Kanzella Donald had three daughters. Georgia was the middle child between two sisters Julia and Eleanor. After the family moved to Dallas, Georgia attended B.F. Daniel Elementary School named after the noted African-American teacher who championed education for Black students at the dawn of the 20th century. A love of learning and teaching others would shadow Georgia throughout her long remarkable life. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and in her young adult years attended Good Street Baptist Church where she served in the Sunday School Department. Later in the 1950s, she attended Hope Presbyterian Church and taught Bible lessons to pre-school children. At Glendale Presbyterian church in the 1960s and beyond, she continued to demonstrate her love for the Lord's "little ones" as both a member of Glendale's Education Committee and Women of the Church.Georgia spent decades of her professional life teaching as well. She influenced and encouraged hundreds of young Dallas students through her dedicated service in the Montessori tradition and other schools of early child development. Georgia was the matriarch of a loving family spanning 5 generations. She was Momma, Mother, Grandma and Gran-Gran. She gave thoughtful gifts over the years that were often connected to history or learning.She was the affectionate keeper of family heirlooms and displayed the social manner of a lady to all who knew her. She "fought the good fight" in every way, keeping the faith and finishing her race through this life. On February 14, 2018 at the age of 95, Her Lord and Savior said daughter your mission is complete.She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Mr. William Young Jr. She leaves behind a son Gene A. Serrell and his wife Doris J. Serrell; two grandsons Paul and David Serrell and their wives Tracey and Rochelle: 6 great-grand children: Clerise, Jarvis, Jaelin, Elizabeth, Victoria and Alexander: and 2 great-great grandsons Amir and Kyrie;and many other relatives and friends. She is remembered as a woman of grace, kindness and inspiration. Visitation will be held at theGlendale Presbyterian Church. 4611 S. Marsalis Ave. Dallas, TX 75216on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The Services will continue on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at11:00 am.
