Carla Ann Anderson

Carla Ann Anderson of Garland, Texas passed away on October 30, 2017 after a brief illness and complications from liver failure. Carla was born to Carl and Elizabeth Soderlund on February 9, 1960 in Providence, Rhode Island and spent her early years between there and New Orleans until her family moved to the Dallas area in the mid-sixties.

She attended Richardson High School where she was active in Softball, Volleyball, A Capella choir & Madrigals, and landed the role of Golde in the Senior Production of “Fiddler on The Roof”. She graduated in 1978 and briefly attended Texas Woman’s University before spending the next few years with Taco Bueno and then shifting direction into the banking industry with Bright Bank & Trust and Mercantile Bank where she became involved in the mortgage side of the business working as a Loan Processor and Loan Officer. She moved on from there to Unistar Mortgage, Alpha Mortgage, and finally to Absolute Mortgage and Loan where she would plant her roots until the end. They would become her second family, accepting her as their “Mama Gringo”.

Carla is preceded in death by her father, Carl F. Soderlund, and is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Soderlund of Pharr, Texas, husband Gregg Cathey of Garland, her brother, Craig Soderlund of Garland, nephews Sean Soderlund of Dallas, Steven Soderlund and Joseph Soderlund of Garland, and Robert Anderson of Garland.

Carla loved her musicals and Sy-Fy weekends. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards with friends and family, and simply spending time reading on the patio on a quiet day. She loved going to the casinos and on cruises with her mother. She became a mother figure to her two youngest nephews and enjoyed watching them shape themselves into young men. She will continue to watch from above.

Carla absolutely loved her canine family, and she knew that Mitzie, Candy, Bonnie, Bailey, Daisy Mae, Roxie, and Max were all going to be at the Rainbow Bridge to greet her, and she awaits Trixie, Lucky and Lola to join her. She would want any donations to be directed towards P.A.W.S. and Operation Kindness in lieu of flowers.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., at Eastgate Funeral Home in Garland, Texas.
