Maureen Marie Stretch

Maureen Marie Stretch was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 3, 1940 and passed away in Dallas, Texas on October 19, 2017 while in the loving care of all the staff at Juliette Fowler Communities and with family at her side.A graduate of Seton High School in 1958, Maureen continued her education at Xavier University Evening College and University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, studying Communication Arts, Drama and Voice and several courses in Engineering Drawing at UC. She retired from AT&T after over 30 years of service.Maureen loved performing. At the age of 7, she won first prize as a vocalist on a local radio Amateur Hour and at 13 made a commercial recording for Cincinnati composer, Gladys Gallohan. While a senior in high school, she performed the lead role in Seton’s production of “Lute Song.”Maureen played the leading role in many of the theatrical productions of XU and UC including “You Can’t Take It With You”, “Of Thee I Sing”, the part of Louisa in the first Cincinnati presentation of “The Fantistics” which was staged by the University of Cincinnati Carousel Experimental Theater and again played the same role with the Daytona Beach Caravan, a professional summer stock group in Daytona Beach, Florida in conjunction with UC where she also had a role in their production of “Little Mary Sunshine.”With the Footlighters, she played the ingénue in “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.” With the St. James Players in White Oak, Maureen played the role of Sarah Brown in “Guys And Dolls” and co-starred as Dulcinea in “Man of LaMancha” presented by the Colrain Music-Drama Guild.In 1969 Maureen joined Western Hills Drama Workshop. In 1971 she co-authored and performed in a play for their Children’s Theater, “Peanuts, Popcorn and Crackerjack” which was staged over the summer at various Cincinnati Recreation Centers. She then served as president of the group in 1973- 1974, produced “A Hatful Of Rain” and for two years supervised the printing and did the art work for the Drama Workshop programs and handbills.Maureen remained a life-long member of Western Hills Drama Workshop and among some of her other roles were leading performances in “Cactus Flower”, ”Stop The World, I Want To Get Off”, “Dark Of The Moon”, “Company” and “Oliver”. In Drama Workshop’s production of “How The Other Half Loves”, which was performed in the regional acting competition of The Association of Community Theaters, Maureen won the coveted “Excellence in Acting” award. However, Maureen considered one of her most cherished achievements her election to membership in Pi Alpha Mu Chapter of Phi Beta Fraternity.Being a parishioner of St. Antoninus Catholic Church for almost fifty years, she sang many years in the choir and performed in all three of their very popular “Back to Broadway” shows. She also sang with the “Tel-A-Tones”, a choral group of AT&T engineering employees, and had a nine week professional engagement at Town and Country Restaurant in Covington, KY.Maureen loved painting in oils and water color, playing Bridge, joining grade-school friends for lunch every-other month, attending the Telephone Pioneers monthly luncheons, serving as coordinator in 2013-2014, swimming and children. Being a good neighbor, she gave an open invitation to all the children on her street to swim in her pool any time she was home, just bring a parent along to supervise. She was a loving sister and aunt, a caring and helpful friend and most importantly, a loving, devoted daughter and sole care-giver for her widowed mother until her death in 1998.Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Paul R. Stretch and Marie Grady Stretch. She leaves behind:two sisters, Mary Rita Siemer (Clem) and Suzanne K. Schmidt (Jack);one niece, Christina Siemer Johnson;four nephews, Michael D. Siemer (Mary Thompson), Stephen M. Siemer, Paul C. Siemer (Lori Russell), and Kevin J. Schmidt;three great-nieces andtwo great-nephews.A Memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dallas, TX on November 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Services are pending for a Mass and burial in Cincinnati, OH sometime in the spring.
