Sally Ann Koch

On Monday, February 13th, 2017 – with arms raised and a smile on her face - Sally Ann Koch joyfully went home to be with her Father in Heaven.

She was born on May 12, 1948 in Detroit Michigan to Richard and Elizabeth Byers, sharing a birthday with her beloved Aunt Esther Brown. She spent her childhood moving throughout the mid-west, but always called Michigan and the beauty of the lakes her home.

She attended Michigan State University where she graduated in 3 years earning multiple academic accolades and a degree in Fine Arts. While there, she met her husband Fred whom she married on February 14, 1970. This past winter, the two celebrated 50 years as a couple and continued to marvel at the longevity of their relationship. He was her “Bear” and she was his “Pooh.”

In the late 1970s, Sally & Fred relocated to the Dallas Area – where they have called home since. In 1980, the two welcomed their daughter, Kathryn Ann “Katy” – and Sally quickly became mother extraordinaire. She adopted Katy’s friends and considered herself another mother to many. Together Katy and Sally shared a unique friendship, loving to travel together and stay up late talking while eating peanut butter & jelly sandwiches.

In 2010, Katy married David Brank – giving Sally the son she never had and allowing her to open her heart even more. Then in 2014, she would claim her life became complete with the birth of her grandson Charles Scott. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her grand-daughter – Esther Elizabeth – due in mid-April. She loved being a Gammy – doting on Charlie and spending most of her free time with him.

More than anything in life, Sally loved God – and as a result was actively involved in the Women’s Ministry through Glory of Zion church. She believed the foundation of relationship with God was worship, and she eagerly looked forward to the time that God called her home.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Betty and grandparents Raymond and Mildred Smith. She is survived by her husband Fred, her aunt Esther, her daughter Katy and husband David and their children, Charlie and Ebbie due in April.

Sally felt charitable giving was an incredibly important component of life – and she always felt blessed by her circumstances. Some of her favorite charities included her Church, Global Advance and the Dallas Arboretum, a local place she loved to visit so she could always take time to stop and smell the roses. Should you feel compelled to donate to these or any other charity of your choosing in Sally’s name, please let the family know.

Sally’s Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, February 25th at Lakepointe Church – Firewheel Campus 1201 East Campbell Road in Garland, Texas 75044 at 10:30 am. A reception will immediately follow.
