Fannie Adell Howell

Fannie Adell Howell was born In Payne Springs, Texas, Henderson County, to Gus Irvin and Cora Chitty Burns on May 2, 1920. She met her husband, James William Howell, in Kemp, Texas where they were married on April 11, 1941. They lived in the Kemp area until her husband was drafted in 1942. After the war, they spent the next six years farming cotton before moving to Dallas in 1951. There, Fannie worked as a grocery checker and meat wrapper, but primarily she was a devoted stay at home mother. Fannie was baptized in late 1945 at a tent revival in Kemp by Tillet S. Teddlie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus Irvin Burns and Cora Chitty Burns, her husband of over 50 years, James William Howell, 3 brothers, Alvis, Archie and Paul Burns and two sisters, Billie Hodges and Mary Schneider. Fannie is survived by brothers, Jerry Burns (Bettie), Kenneth Burns (Mary), sister, Jackie DeCono and brother-in-law, Neil Hart (Deloris). She is also survived by her daughter Sue Taylor (Robert), son, William Butch Howell (Nancy), granddaughters, Tempe Kirby (Chris), Tawny Payne (Gene), Shawncie Wreyford (Chris) and Tammy Downey (Bryan). She was known as "Little Nannie" to her grandchildren Ryan, Jared, and Jake Payne, Landen Kirby, Sierra Stegall and Rylie and Tanor Wreyford. Fannie also has many loving nieces and nephews. She was a life long member of the Church of Christ and was very proud that she could be independent until the last 3 months of her life. We would like to give a special thank you to United Plus Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. Fannie passed away Friday, October 18, 2014. Services will be at Christian Care Center Church, Monday, October 20, 2014 at 12:00pm. A meal will be served at the Swindoll Building immediately following the service. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Mabank, TX.
