Joe Ellis Sullivan

Joe Ellis Sullivan, 82, passed away October 4th, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. He was born September 7th, 1932 in Amherst, Texas to Ala Pierce and Robert A. Sullivan. Joe graduated from Amherst High School. After graduating, he joined the air force in 1950. He received his training at Sheppard Air Force base in Wichita Falls, Texas. Later he was transferred to Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas where he was assigned to the 75th Air Depot Wing. On December 5th, 1952, he was sent to Corpus Christi and boarded the General Gordan which sailed to Panama Canal then on to Korea. He was stationed at Pusan, Korea and Iacuna, Japan until he returned to the United States in January 1955 for his discharge. Joe started driving for Trailways Bus Company in October 1958. His first assignment was a route from Denison to Dallas and back. That's where Joe met the love of his life, Opal Meyers who worked in an office next door to the bus station. Three years later they were married on September 14th 1961 and made their home in Dallas, Texas. They celebrated 53 years together and were blessed with one daughter, Samantha. Joe loved riding his Harley, fishing, and taking vacations in his motor home. He was happiest just spending time with his family. Joe is survived by his wife, Opal Sullivan and daughter Samantha S. Mummert and her husband Steven Memmert, twin grandkids Michael Joe and Mandi Mummert, and one great granddaughter Makynli. He is also survived by his sister Jackie Smith of Jefferson, Texas. Visitation for Joe Ellis Sullivan will be Tuesday October 7th, 2014 from 6- 8:00 pm. His memorial service will be at 2:00pm, Wednesday, October 8th at Eastgate Funeral Home Chapel 1910 Eastgate Drive in Garland, Texas.
