Clarence Frank Young

Clarence Frank Young, 89, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 30, 1927 to Robert Charles and Evelyn Melissa (Bass) Young in Bellaire, OH. At the age of 17 he joined the Merchant Marines and served as a Fireman and Watertender First Class on the SS Joseph J. Kinyoun until WWII ended and his tour of duty completed. After returning to the states, his family moved to Texas. Shortly after arriving in Texas, he met the love of his life Golda Fern Chaney. They were married on April 19, 1947 and remained happily married until her death in 2015. They were long time members of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church.

Clarence worked for Continental Baking Company from 1947 to 1965 when he joined Pollock Container Co where he worked until 1970. Clarence subsequently worked for El Centro College until he retired as Assistant Physical Plant Director in 1985. Clarence is a life member of AMVETS Post 77 and a member of the SS Stephen Hopkins Dallas/Ft Worth Chapter of American Merchant Marine Veterans and was a proud WWII veteran. Clarence always supported our troops, both those in active service and those retired.

Clarence was an avid sports fan. He participated in and coached as a young man and father. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan but could always be counted on to watch and discuss just about any professional or collegiate sport.

Clarence was a loving father of three and a faithful husband. He is survived by his Son, Robert & Donna Young of Forney, TX; Daughter, Paula Burgess of Graham, TX; Daughter, Melissa & Graham Monroe of Coppell, TX; 7 Grandchildren, Stephanie, Stacey, Cindy, Tracy, Jenny, Jack, and Alex; 12 Great Grandchildren; and 9 Great-Great Grandchildren. Clarence is preceded in death by his wife Golda Young, his Parents Robert and Evelyn Young, his sister Virginia Miller, and his son-in-law Tommy Burgess.
