Bobby Charles Davis

Bobby Charles Davis, formerly of Dallas, Texas, passed away July 3, 2016, in Tennessee where he had lived with his niece for two years. He was born January 17, 1924 to Joseph Dawson Davis and Ruby Ann Day Davis in Dallas.

In 1927 Bob moved with his family to Hutchison County, Texas. His father was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company, and they lived in the communities of Sanford, Johnson Plant, and G-Whit. He began his education at Sanford and graduated from Phillips High School in 1942.

He immediately joined the U.S. Navy, training as a pharmacist’s mate and X-ray technician at various Naval facilities. Upon completion of training, Bob was assigned to U.S. Navy Hospitals at Mare Island, California; St. Albans, N.Y.; Aiea Heights, Territory of Hawaii, and field hospitals in Guam where he cared for wounded and dying troops of WWII. He was discharged February 15, 1946.

Bob returned home and lived in the Borger area before moving to Dallas. There he met Frances Dunn, and they married in December 1959. They made their home in Mesquite, Texas. In his later years, his employment with Buckner’s Children’s Home became his most gratifying of all his work experiences. An associate at the facility, Al Breedlove, commented that Bob had taught many young men a trade while he worked there. Bob worked in repairs, upholstery, just about anything to do with needed repairs and maintenance at the home, and he often had residents as helpers.

Bob and Frances were devoted Christians and went on many mission trips with the Baptist Church in the United States and Mexico.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, his mother, two brothers, Floyd C. Davis, and J. D. Davis, Jr., his adopted son, Roland Davis, and Frances, his wife of 52 years. He is survived by Rebecca Davis, Roland’s daughter; sisters Marilyn Davis Austin of Amarillo, Texas, and Ann Marie Davis Driver of Jacksonville, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.

Interment was at College Mound Cemetery, Terrell, Texas.
