Bradley Jay Phillips

Bradley Jay Phillips passed away September 1, 2016, at his home in Rowlett, Texas. He was born on March 14, 1966, in Odessa, Texas to Gena Kaye Payne and Jimmy Eugene Phillips. Brad grew up moving from place to place. His favorite place was Guam where he lived from ages thirteen to sixteen. In high school, Brad was a member of the Junior ROTC. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1984.

He lived in San Antonio, but later moved to Dallas, Texas where he met his wife, Anita Joyce Jeffus Phillips of Rowlett, Texas. They were married on February 1, 1991, and raised their two children, Bryce Alexander Phillips and Raquel Medora Phillips in Rowlett. He worked as a computer support engineer and technical services manager for Cisco Systems for sixteen years. He enjoyed introducing the Rowlett High School Mighty Eagle Band and the Silver Rhythm Dancers at High School half-time football games for many years and always loved ending it with, “Now let’s play some ball y’all!”

Brad was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Garland where he loved serving on various committees and teaching the youth about the message of God. He was an FPC Garland Youth Sponsor and a SYNOD and SHYC group leader. He also coached youth football at the YMCA and was an enthusiastic supporter, volunteer, and chaperon for his children’s many activities. He served as President of his neighborhood HOA for seven years. He often traveled to places such as Costa Rica, India, Singapore, Dubai, Mexico, and many states within the United States of America. He loved going on cruises, singing, dancing, snow skiing, exercising in his zumba and yoga classes, making lunches for his children, cheering the UT Austin Longhorns to victory, and always providing humor and love for every person he met. Brad will be missed from his work community to his church community to his home community. He was a person truly bigger than life and was taken from us much too soon.

Brad was preceded in death by his mother Gena Kaye Parks; grandfather Herbert Jack Riddle; maternal grandfather James Edward Payne. He is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Anita Joyce Phillips, two children Bryce Alexander Phillips (wife Lisa) and Raquel Medora Phillips; granddaughter Katalina Belle Phillips (mother Samantha Krause); grandmother Vivian Vagena Hall Riddle; stepfather Nathan Parks; one sister Donna Kaye Gillespie and three brothers, Matias Hodges, DePaul Parks, and Isaac Parks; father-in-law and mother-in-law Marshall and Sandra Jeffus; sister-in-law and brother in-law Marsha Jane and Scott Usvolk; plus many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous extended family.
