Ronald Charles Ramlow

Lt. Col. Ronald Ramlow, USAF (ret.), passed away on February 21, 2018 in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 85. He served 20 years in the Air Force as a navigator, and was a Vietnam War veteran. Early in his career, he flew in F-101 interceptors while based in upstate New York, and then served as a physiological training officer at Andrews Air Force Base, MD, where he helped train high-altitude reconnaissance pilots.He was then assigned with his family to Clark Air Base in the Philippines, from where he participated in “TDY” assignments in Vietnam, flying combat missions in C-130’s during the height of the war from 1967-70. He completed his Air Force career with assignments at Little Rock AFB and at the Lackland Air Training Command in San Antonio. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Vietnam service medal, and other decorations commemorating his military service to the United States. Following his retirement, Lt. Col. Ramlow pursued a second career in the ice machine business in the Dallas area, and he and his wife “Mimi” lived over 40 years in the same home in Garland, ending a life of almost constant transition during their Air Force years. Lt. Col. Ramlow loved living in Texas, and the state has lost a great citizen.

“Ron” was born on May 16, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, and he attended Ohio University in Athens, where he met his wife Maria, or “Mimi.” He was a track athlete at Ohio U and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated in 1956 with a BA degree in Physical Education. Ron eloped with Mimi right after graduation, and they were married nearly 62 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mimi; son, Reed and his wife, Son Chong; son Clay and his wife, Brenda; and daughter, Sharon and her husband, Luke; and seven grandchildren, Spencer, Mackenzie, Sloan, Chase, Paige, Ryder, and Travis. He was also close with one of his nieces, Kimberly, who resides in the Dallas area with her husband, Ed. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Rose, his sisters, Beverly and Vivian, and his brothers, Otto and Bob.

A military honors ceremony will take place at 11:15 a.m.on Monday March 5, 2018during Lt. Col. Ramlow’s inurnment at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy in Dallas. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
