Billy Ray Harris

Husband of Wanda Harris and beloved father of Theresa & Beth Harris, Deborah & Dan Town, Tammy & Mike Ryder and Toni & Eric Wade, met his Savior Jesus Christ on November 28, 2017 after a fierce and valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born December 18, 1934 to Tom and Nannie Lou Harris in Winnsboro, Texas, Billy has one surviving sister, Mary Tom Harris. He was preceded in death by both his parents and brothers, Terry Harris, Sr. and Larry Harris.

Billy attended Crozier Tech, where he met his first wife and mother of his four girls, Shirley Harris who preceded him in death in 2002.

He was blessed with a second wife, Wanda who lovingly cared for him. This was a biblical union as Wanda was the past wife of his departed brother Terry; thus, he enjoyed a special closeness with Wanda’s children, Dr. Terry Harris, Jr., Mark Harris, Mary Strawn and Tommy Harris, and their families.

Billy proudly served in the U.S. Army; and had a long and passionate career as a steel draftsman and co-owner of ATRA Corporation, where he precisely calculated the steel in many structures including some Dallas area icons. Billy had a great love for golf, horse racing and softball. He resided in Garland, Texas for more than 60 years.

He adored 6 grandchildren, Billy Harris II, Michael B. Ryder, Erin Mohlstrom, Amanda Ryder, Aaron Wade, Brandon Wade, 2 great-grandchildren, Ryan Mohlstrom and Saylor Lankford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Billy was a strong man of high integrity and character. His love and support was unmatched as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to so many. We will all miss him sorely and rejoice in his highest achievement of joining our Lord and Savior in Heaven.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the Faith Presbyterian Hospice team who cared for our precious Daddy in his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.Family will receive friends 6-8PM Friday, December 1 at the Eastgate Funeral Home. Services will commence at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 2 in the Chapel of Eastgate Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas.
