Rita Hope Burgess – July 5, 1928 to September 15, 2017:

Funeral Services for Rita Hope (Reynolds) Burgess. 89 year old Dallas resident, are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Tuesday September 19, 2017 at Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas, TX. George Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Dallas Restland Cemetery following the service. Family visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time Tuesday September 19, 2017.

Ms. Burgess was born July 5, 1928 in Leonard, Texas. Her parents were Herbert Talmadge Reynolds and Ima Elizabeth Wharton Reynolds. She married James Roy Burgess in 1953 and has a son, Barry Roy Burgess. She was a member of Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas and worked for many years as an Executive Secretary and retired from Mobil Oil Company in Dallas, Texas.

Hope enjoyed being with family, friends, and especially being a part of the ladies Helping Hearts Ministry Group at Highland Oaks Church of Christ. Having worked for a period of time as a secretary at Christian Care Center in Mesquite, she was especially interested in continuing to help many people she had know through the years through church and long-term care related activities.

Throughout the years Hope’s life centered around family and friends with her many interest in life. One of the things she was especially known for was a Chicken Sour Cream Enchilada recipe that she made for special occasions. People seemed to just love that special dish.

Enjoyments in life seemed to always involve family and friends’ activities, including volunteer work, shopping, entertaining, being a member of the Book Club and the Mobil-Ex retiree group, playing 42 on Friday nights, as well as many other enjoyments. People in general were always special.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Roy Burgess of Dallas, her brother Preston Talmadge Reynolds and wife Fay Milton Reynolds of Sherman. She is survived by her son, Barry Roy Burgess of Dallas. Also, survived by her nephew Steve Reynolds of Georgetown, niece Sharon Edwards and Husband Frank Edwards of Sherman, and nephew Rande Reynolds of Sherman.
