James Earl Setliff

James Earl Setliff died unexpectedly at home on August 31, 2017. He was 83 years old. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Gaye, their 6 children; Bobby, Patty and her husband Paul, Janis, Tara, Sandy and husband Ryan, Jimmy and wife Samantha, 6 grandchildren, his brother Robert and wife Ann, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren and had special and loving relationships with his nieces and nephews. James Earl was born July 16, 1934 in Austin, Texas to Thomas Earl Setliff and Beatrice Lackey. He graduated from Austin High School. He served honorably and proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps before attending The University of Texas in Austin. He met Gaye while working on his EE degree. After graduating in January, 1960, they moved to Garland, Texas to start work at Texas Instruments. They raised their family in Garland, Huntsville, Ala., Austin, Midland and Richardson where he retired from TI. He really enjoyed his monthly luncheons with his friends that he, and we, lovingly refer to as the “Old Bunch.” James and Gaye faithfully attended the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. He has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your favorite charity. The Boy Scouts of America were very important to his childhood and he has continued to support them. He will be missed. Hook ‘em.
