Shirley Jean Michie

Shirley Jean Michie passed away Friday, June 17th at her home in Garland after a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, May 23rd, at First Baptist Church of Garland, 801 W. Avenue D, Garland, TX 75040. The family will greet visitors from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, June 22 at Eastgate Funeral Home, 1910 Eastgate Dr, Garland, TX 75041.

Shirley was born June 8, 1942 in Lubbock, Texas the daughter of Charles and June (Hood) Hudson. She was united in marriage to James Pete Michie on February 3, 1968. He proceeded her in death May 2, 2005. Best friends, they were married for 37 happy years.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of North Texas in 1981 and embarked on a long and honored career with the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD teaching science to 4th and 5th graders. Her life-long love for education and creativity led her to teaching Children’s Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Garland where she was a member and the Garland Quilt Guild where she served as both Community Service chair and President of the Guild.

She is survived by her son, Michael Paul Michie of Dallas; her daughter & son-in-law Deborah Denton & Kevin Denton of Kansas City; two sisters, Sue Hart of Austin and husband Bill of Austin, Toni Sweet of Amarillo; two brothers, Charles Hudson and wife Genice of Lubbock and Rick Hudson and wife Janet of San Antonio.
