Geneva Rose Boyd

Geneva Rose Saddler Boyd, 86, was born August 28, 1927 in Fletcher, Oklahoma, and at home, as she wished, she passed from this world to the next on May 6, 2014. Jean created a beautiful legacy: survived by her three children, Jon Boyd, Jerry Boyd and wife, Janet, Jodie Chapman, and husband, James and 11 grandchildren, Jenna, and husband Godfrey, Jill, Jon, Hannah, Jenkins, Abby, Caroline, Maggie, Andrew, Chris and Jake. Circumstances did not will it, so Charles and Rose Pierce are not son and daughter, but they and their children, David and Renee, are family and they are beloved. Married for 56 years to Alvin Boyd, who 10 years ago preceded her in death, Boyd and Jean shared love and laughter and devotion to family, traveled the world together and argued over Bridge games. Later in life, Boyd began losing his hearing and Jean's voice became weak and quiet. He joked that they had never gotten along better. Jean wholeheartedly and selflessly committed herself to her family, and through her love and devotion, created many happy memories. Her children are grateful for the homemade fudge in their Christmas stockings and making ice cream in the back yard, the perpetual search for her stash of Snickers, watching her vacuum the pool in her bikini, her Den Mother days, growing up with super-hospitable parents who welcomed their friends, any friends, loads of teenage boys playing poker around the kitchen table while eating everything in sight, spirited games of Wahoo, the punch and homemade cupcakes brought to school parties, her infectious laugh, cheering for the Cowboys, coming home from school every day to a clean house and a warm smile, and sitting down at the table with the entire family and a home-cooked meal, night after night after night . . . Thank you, Mom. You did good. Jean suffered Parkinson's courageously, cheerfully and without complaint for over 30 years, always focused selflessly on the needs and well-being of her children, grandchildren, friends and caregivers instead of having a thought for her own welfare. She will be missed by all who knew her; we will forever cherish and honor her memory in our hearts. The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers, those angels on earth who provided Mom with tender loving care over the past ten years: Michelle, Mary Lou, Brenda, Kay, Dee, Annie, and others. For their compassion, love and devotion, we are forever in their debt. A graveside memorial service will be held on May 10, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Sparkman Hillcrest, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dallas Life Foundation or The Salvation Army, two of Jean's favorite charities.
