Ronald Lynn Floyd

Ronald Lynn Floyd, 64, of Dallas, died on April 7, 2016, after a two-year battle with brain cancer. Born in Houston, he grew up in Dallas, and after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1969, attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas where he received his B.A. in Government and French and M.A. in Secondary Education. In addition, Ron received a M. Ed from North Texas State University in Counseling and an M. Div. From Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Theology. Ron’s professional career included 18 years of work as a social studies teacher and counselor in the Plano Independent School District. Following ordination as a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), he served in pastoral ministry at three churches in Texas: Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin, First Presbyterian Church in Taylor, and St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in Irving. Ron also worked at a private school in San Antonio, Saint Mary’s Hall, as teacher, counselor, and campus chaplain. In Wichita, Kansas, he was an academic counselor at The Independent School. Ron was involved in numerous musical organizations during his life, including playing the trumpet in various wind ensembles and in the Sherman Symphony Orchestra. As a singer, he was a member of three choruses in the Barbershop Harmony Society; the Vocal Majority of Dallas, the Heart of Texas Chorus of San Marcos, and the Air Capital Chorus of Wichita.

Ronald Floyd was predeceased by his father, Sam, and his mother, Faye. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margaret, and their sons, Ryan of Mesquite, Texas, and Evan of Austin, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving. A reception will follow immediately after the service. The family welcomes memorial gifts to any charities of choice.
