Carolyn Elaine Chapman died very peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Her husband of 55 years, Sidney Chapman, and other family members and friends were at her side. Carolyn Smith was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 23, 1934 to W. Lavern and Beulah Ruth Smith. She is survived by her sisters?Ruth Barton of Boston, and Marion Robart of Spring Arbor, Michigan?and her brother, Mendal Smith, of Pickering, Ontario, Canada. She is also survived by her daughter, Karen Llewellyn (Darren Edward) of Island Lake, Illinois; her son, Kevin, of Garland, Texas, and her daughter, Kimberly Shaw (Steven Glenn) of Richardson, Texas. Her nine grandchildren are: Rachel Chapman, Lance Crandall, Allison Crandall Hunt (Dawson), Trent Crandall, Madison Crandall, Krista Llewellyn Muilkens (Jeffrey), Kaitlyn Llewellyn Meeks (David), Darren Edward Llewellyn Jr., and Kayla Llewellyn. Her two great grandchildren are Kylie June Muilkens and Avery Lael Muilkens. Carolyn attended public schools in and near Toronto. She graduated with honors from Pickering, Ontario, Canada High School. She also won awards in track and field while in high school. Carolyn received her nurse's training from West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois, where she was awarded the R.N. certification. After completing two additional years at Wheaton College, Illinois, she was granted a B.S. in nursing with honors. Carolyn nursed in hospitals in Rochester, New York, Jackson, Michigan, and Dallas, Texas, as well as the Vincent Astor Clinic of New York Hospital. She was one of the original group of nurses employed by Medical City Dallas to establish and work in the ObGyn area. In the latter years of her career she was a school nurse in the Garland Independent School District. She loved her family and was loved by them. Nothing was greater than her love for her family except her love for God. This love began in her childhood and continued and grew throughout her life. This led to another focus of her life: studying the Scriptures. She read and reflected on the Scriptures regularly. In addition to her personal study she participated in a Bible study at Fellowship Bible Church Dallas for a number of years. Prior to that time she had been a student in and then a group leader in Bible Study Fellowship. She will be missed by family, friends, and all who knew her. She passed from this life believing and relying on the words of Jesus, "I am the resurrection and the life." He had given her new life and now she awaits the resurrection.
