Edith Evelyn Burkett went to be with the Lord on Saturday January 9, 2016 in Mesquite, TX at the age of 88.

Evelyn was born in Daingerfield, TX to William and Lilian High. She was a member of the high school basketball team.

In 1958 Evelyn married Joe Burkett. They have six children, Joe, Charlie, Kathy and husband Bob, Nancy, Jan, and Mark. They have six grandchildren Bria and husband Eric, Lauren, Cliff, Rachel, Sean, and Nikki. Evelyn has great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also blessed to have many others who call her “Granny”. She is survived by a sister Bobbie and a brother Alton. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Joe in February of 2012.

Granny Evelyn loved to play bingo, go country dancing, and travel to Las Vegas, but time spent with family was the most precious to her! She was absolutely the light of their lives!

A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Thursday January 14that Eastgate Funeral Home Chapel, 1910 Eastgate Dr., Garland, TX 75041

Funeral service will be at 12:00pm Friday January 15thalso at Eastgate Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
