David Hoffmann Jones, age 96, a resident of Holly Lake Ranch for more than 30 years, passed away peacefully Monday morning, August 12, 2024, in Garland, TX. David was born May 12, 1928, in Mishawaka, Indiana to George A. Jones and Elsie Mae Harris. David spent his childhood in Shelby, Ohio and graduated from Shelby High School. He got to Texas as fast as he could and attended SMU in Dallas, TX. David was a computer programmer at an insurance software company for most of his long career. David was able to work remotely before it was cool. He was a prolific storyteller, told the best jokes, and never met a stranger. His hobbies were singing in the church choir, flying small single engine airplanes, square dancing, reading, puzzles, dominos, board games, a KLTV station Weather Watcher, and traveling to several countries. David traveled to England, Scotland, Japan, and his most memorable trip was to Israel to walk in the steps of Jesus. David was a long time Disciples of Christ member at Urbandale Christian Church, and later at Pleasant Grove Christian Church. When David began living full time at Holly Lake Ranch, he became active in his church and community. David attended Holly Brook Baptist Church as his church home. He faithfully sang in the choir and was an active leader in the Awana Club program. David believed in the chance for everyone to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ, the son of the Living God.
