Katie was born in Bakersfield, California and had moved with her family to Oklahoma before tragically losing her battle with drug addiction in Dallas, Texas at the tender age of of 23.
From day one Katie was a little firecracker! She was so full of energy and sass that you couldn't help but love her. She never out grew that little sassy-Katie, she always spoke her mind and stood-up for others.
She absolutely loved the ocean, drawing, skating, gymnastics, music, practicing makeup on her brothers and playing rock band with her family, (even when she sung off key). Katie loved taking care of and helping old people and all animals. She worked as a caregiver for the elderly for a time and enjoyed listening to stories about their past. She would adopt stray animals even when she had nothing herself and do whatever she could to help them. She really loved dancing and could pick up any Tic-Tok dance in a heartbeat and would get her mom to dance along! Katie had a beautiful smile and a laugh that you couldn't help but laugh along with her, and be silly.
Katie is loved by so many and leaves behind her parents Stephanie Klein and William 'Billy' Skaggs, her son Kyrie Skaggs and her brothers CJ and Zack, a niece Lila, her Nana and Papa, Aunt Keo & Uncle Mike, Tia Brandia & Uncle Michael, Great Grandparents Monte & VieVia Klein, Aunt Rhonda, her special chosen family
bestie-sister Delilah and Aunt Sarah, Uncle Simon, Uncle Daniel, and Uncle Mike S, plus many cousins, aunts, uncles, and a dear friend Dorinda, as well as the numerous friends she made everywhere she went. She is preceded in death by her "grandpa Will" William Skaggs Sr.
**************
Katie had an entire village, a tribe of supporters in her corner, ready to help her battle her addiction. The pull of drugs is stronger than non-addicts could ever imagine and the carnage it leaves behind for the families is indescribable. We are all lost right now but we do thank each and everyone of you for your beautiful messages about Katie, your shared memories, your generosity, your love, support, and prayers as we all grieve the loss of our sassy little firecracker who lost her battle with drug addiction.
As sincerely as possible & with love,
Steph, Billy & Nana
