Shirley Grooms Davis passed away May 20, 2021 in Dallas at the age of 85. Shirley was born January 30, 1936 to Nana Thompson Grooms and William George Grooms. She was raised in Campbellsville, Kentucky and was the youngest of 4 children. Her siblings were Mary Virginia, William and Barbara. When Shirley was in high school she earned state honors in baton twirling and won many trophies and awards. She taught baton twirling for many years to younger students. and earned a partial scholarship to college for her baton twirling. Shirley attended Western Kentucky University, majoring in business. Shirley met the love of her life, Donald Ray Davis while at Western Kentucky and they were married March 10, 1957 at the Campbellsville Baptist Church. They moved to Hopkinsville, Kentucky where Don was raised and Shirley began working at Met Life. A son, Mark Steven, was born in 1971. The family moved to the Dallas area and they built a beautiful home in 1978. Shirley continued to work at Met Life where she worked until she retired in 1996. Shirley was an amazing cook and loved to cook for special occasions and different events. She enjoyed gardening and for many years, won special awards in the neighborhood for her yard and landscape, as well as for Christmas lights during the holidays. Shirley was always very upbeat and had a constant smile on her face. Everything she did was to serve others, her husband, her son and other close family and friends. Shirley had a great love for dogs and there was always a beautiful dog in their home to be enjoyed by everyone. Shirley is survived by her son, Mark Steven Davis, of Dallas; her sister, Mary Virginia Money, of Campbellsville, KY; and several nieces and nephews and other close family. Shirley will be greatly missed by her family and many friends who loved her very much. A funeral service was held Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Eastgate Funeral Home, Garland, TX., with burial at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, TX.
